Touch Me
It has been over fifty years since the beginning of the sexual revolution but today’s society still maintains an ambivalent attitude towards females openly talking about/exploring their sexuality, which has resulted in women repressing their sexuality and dealing with intense feelings of guilt. I aim to make work spotlighting my personal sexual explorations as a female and placing it in a social context to confront the negativity of slut shaming and break the taboo surrounding fetishes of women.
I am doing this by exploring how disrupting an object can create a new conceptual meaning and focusing on the effects a sensual, tactile material has when wrapped around common place objects. The objects I have chosen to reflect this relate to my personal sexual exploration of erotica and fetishism. In particular, I’m interested in how PVC creates a sensual feel when wrapped around the objects, thereby creating a new sculptural quality and tactile relationship between the viewer and object.
