The mix used building project, is based on the Porth Teigr bay site near the BBC filming studio. The given task was to design two mix use building on a 5565.30m2 area surrounded by a residential area, mix zone and commercial zone facing the north side of the site. The concept design is based on the re-imagination of 15th century French building and the study of human movement by ROBERT B. BECHTEL.
Due to the site being an old industrial zone, with quite a polluted area the building will be fitted with an innovative material that would reduce the amount of polluted air in the area. Developed for Expo 2015 for the creation of the outer surface and internal facades of Palazzo Italia, I. Active Biodynamic is a biodynamic concrete combining eco-friendly, aesthetic and high-performance components. The organic component comes from the photocatalytic properties of the cement obtained thanks to the patented TX Active ingredient. The mortar also uses 80% recycled aggregates, in part coming from off-cuts and waste resulting from the workings of Carrara marble which give the material a higher level of brightness compared to traditional white cements.
The BIODYNAMIC product name is a summary of its innovative characteristics: the “bio” component comes from the product’s photocatalytic properties, originating from the active ingredient TX Active. This gives the product self-cleaning and de-polluting properties. In direct sunlight, the active principle contained in the material “captures” certain pollutants present in the air and converts them into inert salts, helping to purify the atmosphere from smog.

Mae’r cysyniad dylunio’n seiliedig ar ailddychmygu adeilad Ffrengig o’r 15fed ganrif a’r astudiaeth o symudiad dynol gan ROBERT B. BECHTEL.
Gan fod y safle’n hen barth diwydiannol ac yn ardal sydd â rhywfaint o lygredigaeth caiff yr adeilad ei osod gyda deunydd arloesol a fyddai’n gostwng cyfaint yr aer llygredig yn yr ardal. Mae I. Active Biodynamic, a ddatblygwyd ar gyfer Expo 2015 i greu arwyneb allanol a ffasadau mewnol Palazzo Italia, yn goncrit biodynamig sy’n cyfuno cydrannau llesol i’r amgylchedd, esthetig a pherfformiad uchel. Daw’r gydran organig o briodweddau ffotogatalytig y sment a geir diolch i’r cynhwysyn TX Active sydd o dan batent. Mae’r morter hefyd yn defnyddio 80% o agregau wedi’u hailgylchu a ddaw yn rhannol o dociadau a gwastraff sy’n deilio o waith marmor Carrara, gan rhoi lefel uwch o loywder i’r deunydd o’i gymharu â smentiau gwyn traddodiadol.
Mae enw’r cynnyrch BIODYNAMIC yn grynodeb o’i nodweddion arloesol: daw’r gydran “bio” o briodweddau ffotogatalytig y cynnyrch, sy’n deillio o’r cynhwysyn gweithredol TX Active. Mae hyn yn rhoi priodweddau hunanlanhau a dadlygru i’r cynnyrch. Mewn golau haul uniongyrchol, mae’r egwyddor weithredol sydd wedi’i chynnwys yn y deunydd yn “dal” llygryddion penodol o’r awyr ac yn trawsnewid nhw i halenau anadweithiol, gan helpu puro’r awyrgylch rhag mwrllwch.
