Green In Seasoned

The material of choice for me is wood, responsibly sourcing it, I find it an interesting material to work with due to its durability, strength and aesthetic. The types of hardwood I favour are; Oak, Chestnut, Lime and Cherry. Fruit woods are better for carving and therefore more suited to the inlay technique I have developed. I use Oak for furniture because of its strength, but all the woods I use are selected for their colour, grain and durability. I explore how these natural qualities are enhanced by the maker’s intervention, in doing this I focus on natural vs manmade aesthetic, exploring where the boundaries of each begin, cross over and end. I am interested in exploring and pushing the inlaid surface application I have developed using green branches, inlaying them into natural, live edged material, I innovatively apply this process to both flat and curved surfaces. This enables my outcomes to span from functional to decorative across a broad spectrum of scales from furniture to vessels.
