Attributes of the Deer
Folklore, mythology and metamorphosis are inspirations used by Harriet within her work. Narrative plays a central role within all of this, by using traditional mythology narratives and incorporating them into the work, it has allowed her to create a collection of objects touching upon the same narratives but within different ways.
With a love and appreciation for nature, and by using natural forms such as antlers and deer feet, she transforms these objects into ceramic, as well as combing the ceramic with taxidermy elements. Taxidermy is an important factor within her work, it brings another materiality, while also connecting the work back to nature itself.
The collection are of objects that are portraying the curiosities and the unknown of traditional folklore rituals and ceremonial tools, as well as having a metamorphic quality in some.
She would like to invite you in to use these objects as tools to create your own narratives and ideas of what these objects might be and where they have come from.
