Kenneth

I am an aspiring, figurative artist, who creates sentimental and emotive art.

The inspiration for my artwork stems purely from personal life experiences and raw emotions. This personal and honest approach to making, adds an intimacy to the work, allowing the viewer to gain an insight into my mind as a creator and human being.

I have recently explored the world of life casting, gaining a greater understanding and passion for a variety of materials such as Alginate and Plaster. The finished work consists of a combination of fine particles of clay and plaster as one.

The work exhibited conveys the sadness of bereavement, having lost my uncle Kenneth recently to cancer, I have allowed the art to act as a cathartic experience, healing the heartbreaking pain that follows the loss of a loved one.

My work focusses dominantly on loss, highlighting the negative space presented, this visible emptiness, is a representational narrative of Kenneth once being there.

The diptych exhibited artefacts, convey an intangible, precious memory I have of holding Kenneth’s hands; the before and after, life and death of Kenneth. The deliberate markings upon the fingers, portray the idea of death creeping up on the soul, representing its undiscriminating nature.

This memory has developed into a physical and emotive outcome, portraying loss through the use of materials used, and the content of the work.
