BA (Hons) Textiles

Izzy Stephens

I am a textiles designer that specialises in dye, print and elements of stitch. My practice has made me aware of the damages that the textile industry causes on the enviroment, specifically the harmful use of synthetic dyes. My work focuses on the process of natural dyeing using a verity of substrates such as Red and Brown Onion Skins, Turmeric, Eucalyptus leaves, Raspberries and Black Walnuts to achieve a wide range of colours. Natural hues is a collection that demonstrates a wide range of colours that can be achieved by the using a verity of natural materials and that natural dyeing is an alternative way of dyeing instead of the harmful use of synthetic dyes. Techniques such as shibori and stitch has allowed me to emphasis the full potential of the natural colours. With my degree I aspire to complete a masters in art therapy as I feel it is a way for me to express my passion for my degree and desire to help others.

Rwyf yn ddylunydd tecstilau sy’n arbenigo mewn llifynnau, print ac elfennau o bwytho. Mae fy ymarfer wedi fy ngwneud yn ymwybodol o’r niwed y gall y diwydiant tecstilau ei wneud i’r amgylchedd, yn enwedig y defnydd niweidiol ar lifynnau synthetig. Mae fy ngwaith yn canolbwyntio ar broses lifo naturiol drwy ddefnyddio amrywiaeth o swbstradau megis Crwyn Winwns Coch a Brown, Tyrmerig, dail Ewcalyptws, Mafon a Chnau Ffrengig Duon i gael creu ystod eang o liwiau. Mae Natural Hues yn gasgliad sy’n dangos yr amrywiaeth eang o liwiau y gellir eu creu drwy ddefnyddio pethau naturiol a bod llifo naturiol yn ffordd amgen o lifo yn hytrach na’r defnydd niweidiol ar lifynnau synthetig. Mae technegau megis shibori a phwytho wedi fy ngalluogi i bwysleisio potensial llawn y lliwiau naturiol. Gyda fy ngradd rwyf yn gobeithio cwblhau gradd Meistr mewn Therapi Celf gan fy mod yn teimlo ei fod yn ffordd i mi gael mynegi fy mrwdfrydedd dros fy ngradd a’m hawydd i helpu pobl eraill.
