The main aim when creating these designs was to portray the unique and diverse culture of my hometown, Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Botanical Gardens heavily inspired this collection, bringing both floral and architectural elements together to produce something exciting and innovative. Living in a Mediterranean country, colour forms an integral part of the culture as well as in my work. This is clearly illustrated through my use of a vibrant, bold and contrasting colour palette.

The Abstract Art Movement also inspired the collection. Artists such as Hans Hofmann and Josef Albers were explored because of their colour compositions. My intention was to celebrate the relationship of art and textiles through the impression of spontaneity and gestural brushstrokes.

Finally, both hand dyed and hand screen-printed techniques were chosen for the production of my collection, as it is through these that originality and individuality is created in design. The pure act of the printing process allows for human errors and imperfections to come through, including ink bleeds from the silk screen. I feel this adds another element to my final outcomes, as it makes my final textile prints vulnerable and unique.

Y nod pennaf wrth greu’r dyluniadau hyn oedd portreadu diwylliant unigryw a gwahanol Gibraltar, tref fy mebyd. Fe wnaeth Gerddi Botaneg Gibraltar ysbrydoli’r casgliad hwn yn fawr, gan ddod ag elfennau blodeuog a phensaernïol at ei gilydd i gynhyrchu rhywbeth cyffrous a newydd. Wrth fyw mewn gwlad ar lannau Môr y Canoldir, bydd lliw yn rhan annatod o’r diwylliant yn ogystal ag yn fy ngwaith. Mae hyn i’w weld yn amlwg wrth i fi ddefnyddio palet o liwiau egnïol, amlwg a chyferbyniol.

Fe wnaeth y Mudiad Celfyddyd Haniaethol ysbrydoli’r casgliad hefyd. Fe wnes i ymchwilio i waith Hans Hofmann a Josef Albers oherwydd eu cyfansoddiadau lliw. Fy mwriad oedd dathlu’r berthynas rhwng celf a thecstilau drwy’r argraff o naturioldeb a strociau brwsh awgrymog.

Yn olaf, cafodd technegau llifo â’r llaw a sgrin-brintio â’r llaw eu dewis er mwyn cynhyrchu fy nghasgliad, gan mai drwy’r rhain y bydd dylunio yn wreiddiol ac yn unigol. Mae’r weithred bur o brintio yn caniatáu i bobl wneud camgymeriadau ac i bethau amherffaith ddod i’r golwg, gan gynnwys inc yn rhedeg o’r sgrin sidan. Rwy’n teimlo bod hyn yn ychwanegu elfen arall i’m canlyniadau terfynol, gan y bydd yn gwneud fy mhrintiau tecstilau terfynol yn fregus ac yn unigryw.
