Wearable Narratives
First and foremost, there is a story to tell. Each wearable object is based on a proverb or phrase, with a world and a character.
This results in an interesting relationship between functionality and futility; functionality allows the viewer to explore the object in the physical realm, while futility engages the mind. Important, however, is the connections between every ideas, that relates back to the character of the piece.
I try to capture a balance in form: mechanical and natural; solidness and flexibility; straight and round; powerful and effortless; outside and inside. In particular, natural forms are beautiful because the object appears to grow into its shape and, as jewellery, it appears to grow to you just as you have chosen to wear it.
Sustainability is also an important consideration, which is partly the reason for using natural materials. Just as each idea is appropriate to the narrative, so each material and method is appropriately sustainable in relation to the circumstances and resources available.
