My collection ‘Restricted Creative’ is an acknowledgement of challenges experienced through the creative process. This looks at how clothing can restrict and manipulate the movement of the body in the same way that imposter syndrome also restricts and manipulates my creative process.
My concept was born through a reflective period where I felt I wasn’t reaching my full potential to create collections that reflected my designer signature. After evaluation and a level of introspection, I validated that the imposter syndrome had formed a ‘makers block’ where I physically and mentally could not produce work. I overcame this by reflecting on what I enjoy and what excites me about fashion, being primarily the pattern-cutting and construction. This allowed me to re-evaluate my strengths and practical skills and to remember to not overcomplicate the creative process.

For the collection, I experimented with ways in which the body move and where and how it can be restricted.

Mae fy nghasgliad ‘Restricted Creative’ yn gydnabyddiaeth o heriau a wynebwyd yn ystod y broses greadigol. Mae hyn yn edrych ar y modd y gall dillad gyfyngu a dylanwadu ar symudiad y corff yn yr un modd ag y mae syndrom ffugiwr hefyd yn cyfyngu ac yn dylanwadu ar y broses greadigol. Ganwyd fy nghysyniad drwy gyfnod myfyriol pan oeddwn yn teimlo nad oeddwn i’n cyrraedd fy llawn botensial i greu casgliadau oedd yn adlewyrchu fy llofnod fel dylunydd. Wedi gwerthuso a lefel o fewnholi, fe wnes i wirio fod y syndrom ffugiwr wedi achosi ‘rhwystredigaeth creu’ ac na allwn greu gwaith o safbwynt corfforol na meddyliol. Llwyddais i oresgyn hyn drwy fyfyrio ar yr hyn rwy’n ei fwynhau a’r hyn sy’n fy nghyffroi o safbwynt ffasiwn, yn benodol torri patrymau a chreu. Rhoddodd hyn gyfle i mi ail-werthuso fy nghryfderau a’m sgiliau ymarferol a chofio peidio â gorgymhlethu’r broses greadigol.
