Spring Time
My work is concerned with mark making and its ability to describe the world around us. Without trying to achieve complete realism or abstraction it is within a mediation of the material and the subject matter that I try to find an image. Working between drawings, paintings and digital software I find the inherent qualities of each material inform one another. This places an emphasis on the evolutionary nature of the creative process and helps to breathe new life into the images I create.
The starting point of my work is always observation from life. There is an energy that can be captured from looking at an object and I believe it is the subtle variations in colour and the movement contained in the forms, which carry over to an image to give it a life of its own.
