Jordana Langford

BA (Hons) Textiles

Jordana is a surface pattern and textile designer for her brand Jord’s Textiles who specialises in the children’s market. Colour and joy are key design values in Jordana’s creative journey making for mood-boosting designs and maximalist style patterns. Through using pattern combined with different textures, her pattern’s appeal to the sensory interest of young audiences.

All patterns and designs feature her naïve abstract handwriting style that purposefully uses childlike mark-making techniques and collaging to appeal to young audiences. Her creative skills range from flat surface print design to hands-on embellishing. An important factor in her work is finding innovative ways of pushing design through using new techniques and materials from laser cutting to stitching. Jordana is driven by the desire for her patterns to be mood-boosting and fun for others. Jordana is enthusiastic about enhancing her hand made motifs digitally through layering textures or digitally creating the pattern.

‘Joyful Sweetshop’ is a children’s interiors collection inspired by abstract sweets and candy shapes. This combined with her handwriting style creates a playful sensory collection that explores the development stages of different children’s age groups through three sub-collections. Each sub-collection explores design in a different way most suitable for that collections age range. The collection follows the ideology and aesthetics of post-modern Memphis design to create bold patterns and products that challenge typical design through fun-shaped cushion and digitally cut lampshades. Jordana’s use of colour and sensory techniques creates a fun collection that appeals to the curiosity of a young child.
