Katie Horodecki

BA (Hons) Fine Art

This set of work is inspired from my scuba diving experiences. When I dive I witness fantastic and unusual ‘life forms’. Somewhere between the dive and the dry land there is a collision in my subconcious between fantasy and reality.

I explore, and translate the visions of this diving experience through the use of printmaking. The resulting prints invite a variety of interpretation, encouraging the audience to decipher the various marks and forms according to their own understanding and perception. The process of mark making is fundamental to creating this underwater experience. The technique exploits my obsession with this ‘in-between world’ with the actual process of making the etchings becoming more like the dive itself.

Each print interlinks with the next, merging forms together, portraying the multi dimensional world of the deep sea.

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
