The concept behind the Social Butterfly collection developed from researching the early 2000s, Y2K pop culture, mixed with childhood nostalgia. Inspired by escapism from the COVID- 19 pandemic, the collection aims to bring freedom, comfort and memories of simpler times. Escaping lockdown and being able to be free again, socialising with our friends, and family and having fun bringing this idea to life in my collection and concept. Reliving childhood dreams creates a character, making a childhood dream come to life and being able to wear it. Reliving this fantasy, you dreamt about as a young child and being able to recreate it as an adult (Kid-adult) Creates a joyful expression of life being carefree and embodying our youth into adulthood, being playful and fun with our outfits.

Key shapes and symbols have been applied to the garments and accessories such as love hearts and butterflies to show love, growth, positivity, happiness and freedom. These shapes were created using the technique of tufting, which I learned during lockdown through the social media platform Tik Tok. I used tufting in my collection as I would like to have a business in tufting when I leave university.

Femininity, stereotypical girly colours, shapes, fabrics, and forms are used to show that women can dress as they like and not need to worry about what others think. Women are encouraged to think about the image they express themselves through clothes because of socialites standards. How women can feel empowered by dressing girly and embracing this stereotype of a woman. Using stereotypical ‘girly’ colours but also sayings women should feel empowered to wear whatever they want. I have considered feminine dressing today to be inspired by Y2K a stylistic trend covering the late 90s, and early 2000s and mixing it with childhood nostalgia. Being free and embracing fun, playful and carefree styles in your adulthood become kid-adults to bring your wardrobe to life. Not being stuck in socialites’ rules, having freedom and transforming into these outgoing women.

Wedi’i ysbrydoli gan y ddihangfa o bandemig COVID-19, bwriad y casgliad yw dod â rhyddid, cysur ac atgofion o gyfnodau symlach. Dianc rhag y cyfnod clo a gallu bod yn rhydd unwaith eto, cymdeithasu gyda ffrindiau, a theulu a chael hwyl yn dod â’r syniad hwn yn fyw yn fy nghasgliad a’m cysyniad. Mae ail-fyw breuddwydion plentyndod yn creu cymeriad, gan wneud i freuddwyd plentyndod ddod yn fyw a gallu ei gwisgo. Mae ail-fyw’r ffantasi hon, y gwnaethoch freuddwydio amdani pan yn blentyn ifanc a gallu ei hail-greu fel oedolyn (Plentyn-oedolyn) yn creu mynegiant hapus o fywyd diofal ac yn ymgorffori ein hieuenctid fel oedolion, gan allu bod yn chwareus a llawn hwyl gyda’n gwisgoedd.

Defnyddiwyd siapiau a symbolau allweddol i’r dillad a’r ategolion megis calonnau cariad a phili palod i ddangos cariad, tyfiant, hapusrwydd a rhyddid. Cafodd y siapiau yma eu creu drwy ddefnyddio techneg cudynnu, a ddysgais yn ystod y cyfnod clo drwy’r llwyfan cyfryngau cymdeithasol Tik Tok. Defnyddiais gudynnu yn fy nghasgliad am yr hoffwn gael busnes cudynnu wedi gadael y brifysgol.

Defnyddir ffeminyddiaeth, lliwiau, siapiau, defnyddiau merchetaidd stereoteipaidd i ddangos y gall merched wisgo fel y dymunant heb orfod poeni am beth mae eraill yn ei feddwl. Anogir merched i feddwl am y ddelwedd y maent yn ei mynegi drwy ddillad oherwydd safonau cymdeithasol. Sut y gall merched deimlo’n awdurdodedig drwy wisgo’n ferchetaidd ac ymfalchïo yn y stereoteip yma o ferch. Defnyddio lliwiau ‘merchetaidd’ stereoteipaidd ond hefyd dweud y dylai merched deimlo’n awdurdodedig i wisgo beth bynnag y maent yn ei ddymuno. Rwyf wedi ystyried gwisgoedd benywaidd heddiw wedi’u hysbrydoli gan Y2K a thuedd arddullaidd o ddiwedd y 90au, a dechrau’r 2000au a’u cymysgu â nostalgia plentyndod. Bod yn rhydd ac ymfalchïo mewn arddulliau hwyliog, chwareus a di-hid fel oedolion gan ddod yn blant-oedolion er mwyn dod â’ch cwpwrdd dillad yn fyw. Peidio â bod ynghlwm wrth reolau cymdeithasol, a bod yn rhydd i drawsnewid y rhain yn ferched sy’n mynd allan.
