Lauren Goodwin

BA (Hons) Fine Art

My main focus of my work is to look past the obvious and identify the changes, be it in my own life and in my artwork.

Change is constant whether we notice it or are oblivious to it. This subject matter of change can relate to anyone and anything. Change for me is hard, it’s a disturbance. My work is about the chaos of not being able to notice and adapt to the change.

An example of change within my work is light to dark and enclosed and open space. The layering process mimics the build-up of the hidden changes and experiences, which are apparent in my own life and the world around me.

The use of geometrical shapes to create layered pattern investigates the structure and forms. Screen printing allows my work to be transformed and repeated in various ways by reproducing the same pattern whilst adapting variables such as colour or changing the orientation of the screen. This regains a sense of control in the creative process where exploring change is the main concern, therefore processing change in a new way.

Prif ffocws fy ngwaith yw edrych heibio i’r amlwg ac adnabod y newidiadau, boed hynny yn fy mywyd fy hun ac yn fy ngwaith celf.

Mae pethau’n newid yn barhaus, p’un ai y byddwn yn sylwi hynny neu’n hollol anymwybodol ohono. Mae newid yn destun sy’n gallu bod yn berthnasol i unrhyw un ac i unrhyw beth. Nid gwaith hawdd i mi yw newid. Mae’n aflonyddu arnaf. Mae fy ngwaith yn ymwneud â’r anhrefn llwyr o beidio â bod yn gallu sylwi ar newid ac addasu iddo.

Enghraifft o newid o fewn fy ngwaith yw golau i dywyllwch a gofod amgaeedig ac agored. Mae’r broses haenu yn dynwared cronni profiadau a newidiadau cudd, sy’n amlwg yn fy mywyd i fy hun ac yn y byd o’m cwmpas.

Mae defnyddio siapiau geometrig i greu patrwm haenog yn archwilio’r strwythur a’r ffurfiau. Mae sgrin-brintio yn galluogi fy ngwaith i gael ei drawsffurfio a’i ail-adrodd mewn gwahanol ffyrdd drwy atgynhyrchu’r un patrwm gan addasu newidynnau megis lliw neu newid gogwydd y sgrin. Mae hyn yn adfer ymdeimlad o reolaeth yn y broses greadigol lle y bydd archwilio newid yn ddiddordeb pennaf i fi, gan brosesu newid felly mewn ffordd newydd.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
