Liam Boyle

BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

The ever-developing world of design has led to an abundance of obsolete objects. Objects discarded for their lack of function or style. However, found objects hold an inherent value within this series of work, being both the material and source of inspiration. Every object holds within its form an intrinsic beauty, perhaps from its complexity of components or technical design. These lighting pieces look to highlight this formal beauty by juxtaposing these complex objects against simple geometric shapes.
Artist and designer, Liam Boyle, creates these pieces under the pseudonym Delusional Lies. Inspired by industrial design and constructivist sculpture, he develops his work through interaction with found objects and experimentation with shape and form. Boyle collects parts from unloved electronics and materials destined for the skip, the truly priceless. Working with CNC machinery, elements are also made from desirable hardwoods and material boards. A grey scale colour scheme is used to complement both the natural and manmade parts. Boyle then carefully curates an assemblage to form striking lighting pieces and sculptural objects designed for the modern home.

Mae’r byd dylunio sy’n bythol ddatblygu wedi arwain i doreth o wrthrychau â’u defnydd wedi darfod. Gwrthrychau sydd wedi’u rhoi o’r neilltu oherwydd eu diffyg rõl neu steil. Fodd bynnag mae gwerth cynhenid i wrthrychau y deuwn ar eu traws o fewn y gyfres waith yma. A hwythau yw’r defnydd a’r ysbrydoliaeth. Mae pob gwrthrych yn dal o fewn eu ffurf harddwch cynhenid, efallai oherwydd cymhlethdod y cydrannau neu’r dyluniad technegol. Mae’r darnau golau hyn yn ceisio amlygu’r harddwch ffurfiol yma drwy osod y gwrthrychau cymhleth hyn yn erbyn siapiau geometrig syml.
Mae’r artist a’r dylunydd Liam Boyle yn creu’r darnau hyn o dan y ffug enw Delusional Lies. Mae wedi’i ysbrydoli gan ddylunio diwydiannol a cherflunwaith adeileddol ac mae’n datblygu eu waith drwy ryngweithio â’r gwrthrychau y mae wedi dod ar eu traws ac arbrofi gyda siâp a ffurf. Mae Boyle yn casglu rhannau o bethau electronig trist a deunyddiau sydd ar eu ffordd i’r sgip, pethau amhrisiadwy yn wir. Gan weithio gyda pheiriannau CNC, caiff elfennau eu gwneud hefyd o brenau caled gwerthfawr a byrddau deunyddiau. Caiff lliw llwyd ei ddefnyddio sy’n gydnaws â’r rhannau naturiol a’r rhai o waith dyn. Yna bydd Boyle yn crynhoi casgliad i ffurfio darnau golau trawiadol a gwrthrychau o gerflunwaith wedi’u dylunio ar gyfer y cartref modern.
