Space, we move through it every day. We travel from destination to destination chasing our latest objective, most of the time hardly considering where we are beyond how to get to where we need to go. Everything we can perceive exists within space yet we often consider it synonymous with emptiness.

In our human world space defines the distance between boundaries, a parking space is the empty bit between two lines and outer space is the empty bit between clumps of rock and gas. It is this perceived division of infinity and the difference in human sensation between each compartment of that reality that truly fascinates me.

Boundaries offer the ability to create small compartmentalised worlds, allowing each to have its own separate stream of sensory information and as such impose a radically different experience to any person moving between them.

The aim of this work is to form a singular experience with an object based upon its physicality in situ, it’s immobility and mass forming a tangible point of reference when walking the floors of the building whilst defining an alternate route of travel. It is my hope that this provides a platform for a sense of external envelopment within the piece and can be interacted with on not just a visual level but as a presence with its own sense of gravity. Overall, this work is a celebration of the nature of clay as a material within three dimensions and its capacity to both create and consume space as a vessel.

Gofod, rydym ni’n symud drwyddo bob dydd. Rydym ni’n teithio o gyrchfan i gyrchfan gan fynd ar drywydd ein hamcan diweddaraf, heb ystyried y rhan fwyaf o’r amser lle’r ydym ni y tu hwnt i sut i gyrraedd y lle mae angen i ni fynd iddo. Mae popeth y gallwn ei ddirnad yn bodoli o fewn y gofod ond er hyn rydym yn ystyried ei fod yn gyfystyr â gwacter yn aml.

Yn ein byd dynol, mae gofod yn diffinio’r pellter rhwng ffiniau, gofod parcio yw’r darn gwag rhwng dwy linell a’r gofod pell yw’r darn gwag rhwng clystyrau o graig a nwy. Y rhaniad canfyddedig hwn o anfeidredd a’r gwahaniaeth mewn teimlad dynol rhwng pob rhan o’r realiti hwnnw sy’n apelio ataf fi mewn gwirionedd.

Mae ffiniau’n cynnig y gallu i greu bydoedd bychain mewn adrannau bach, gan ganiatáu i bob un gael ei ffrwd ar wahân ei hun o wybodaeth synhwyraidd ac fel y cyfryw’n rhoi profiad cwbl wahanol i unrhyw un sy’n symud rhyngddynt.

Nod y gwaith hwn yw ffurfio profiad hynod gyda gwrthrych yn seiliedig ar ei natur gorfforol yn y fan a’r lle, ei ansymudedd a’i fàs yn ffurfio pwynt cyfeirio pendant wrth gerdded ar draws lloriau’r adeilad ond gan ddiffinio llwybr teithio arall. Fy ngobaith yw y bydd hyn yn darparu llwyfan ar gyfer ymdeimlad o orchuddio allanol o fewn y darn, ac y gellir rhyngweithio ag ef, nid yn unig ar lefel weledol ond fel presenoldeb gyda’i ymdeimlad ei hun o ddisgyrchiant. Yn gyffredinol, mae’r gwaith hwn yn ddathliad o natur clai fel deunydd o fewn tri dimensiwn a’i allu i greu a defnyddio gofod fel llestr.
