Weighting for Perfection

Weighting for Perfection is collection inspired by the pressing issues concerning the fashion industry today. The glamorisation of generalised skinny models has been seen to trigger many physical insecurities. Growing numbers of individuals feel the need to obey for a sense of self-worth and validation within society. These unattainable and unhealthy standards have become so possessive and present that they’re inflicting a disorderly way of living.

This collection was curated through the insights of multiple individual’s experiences regarding their own body image. Built on the insecurities people face about their own physical appearance, weighting for perfection expresses the need for urgent progression in the image for the fashion industry.

The collection was inspired by two contrasting images, causal and formal wear. This is reflected using denims and pinstripes. These two looks were merged as they both tend to have contrasting connotations. Denim is a casual material linked to everyday wear, while pinstripes are associated with formal wear as commonly seen within suits. In line with this, my silhouettes have been designed to cover up and create an illusion to distort the shape of the body but also have elements of exposure. My intention to merge a variation of styles together came from the idea of viewing yourself in different perceptions. The intention behind this came from the same effects the mental disorder body dysmorphia can inflict.

Casgliad wedi’i ysbrydoli gan y materion pwysig sy’n ymwneud â’r diwydiant ffasiwn heddiw yw Weighting for Perfection. Mae’r modd y mae modelau tenau iawn wedi cael eu hystyried fel bod yn eithriadol o hardd wedi arwain at esgor ar lawer o ansicrwydd corfforol. Mae nifer cynyddol o unigolion yn teimlo’r angen i gydymffurfio er mwyn sicrhau ymdeimlad o hunan-werth a dilysiad o fewn cymdeithas. Mae’r safonau anghyraeddadwy ac afiach yma wedi dod mor feddiannol a phresennol nes eu bod yn achosi ffordd anhrefnus o fyw.

Cafodd y casgliad yma ei guradu drwy fewnwelediad profiadau llawer o unigolion yn ymwneud â’u delwedd cyrff eu hunain. Yn seiliedig ar yr ansicrwydd mae pobl yn ei wynebu ynghylch eu hymddangosiad corfforol eu hunain, mae pwysau am berffeithrwydd yn mynegi’r angen am symudiad brys yn nelwedd y diwydiant ffasiwn.

Ysbrydolwyd y casgliad gan ddwy ddelwedd gyferbyniol, gwisg anffurfiol a ffurfiol. Adlewyrchir hyn drwy ddefnyddio denim a streipiau mân. Cyfunwyd y ddwy ddelwedd hyn am fod tuedd cynodiadau cyferbyniol i’r ddwy. Defnydd anffurfiol yw denim sy’n cael ei gysylltu â dillad bob dydd, tra bod streipiau mân yn gysylltiedig â dillad ffurfiol fel y gwelir yn gyffredin mewn siwtiau. Yn unol â hyn, cynlluniwyd fy silwetau i guddio a chreu delwedd i ystumio siâp y corff ond hefyd i gynnwys elfennau o ddatguddiad. Daeth fy mwriad i gyfuno amrywiaeth o arddulliau ynghyd o’r syniad o weld eich hunan mewn gwahanol ganfyddiadau. Daeth y bwriad y tu ôl i hyn o’r un effeithiau y gall yr anhwylder meddwl dysmorphia corff eu hachosi.
