Sensationalist – “presenting information in a way that is intended to provoke interest or excitement, at the expense of accuracy.”

There have been many different forms of sensationalist media produced throughout history to exploit the concerns of the population, from the alien invasion film genre of the 50s and 60s to how modern media have reported on video games and music. This project seeks to highlight some of the absurdities of sensationalist media around the topic of why someone would be watching true crime documentaries. I’m worried! is a card game that seeks to provoke and sensationalise concerns, implying that if your partner has been watching true crime, that they are planning on murdering you, even though most studies on the matter would suggest otherwise. A large portion of true crime cases cover a murder or crime that one partner commits to the other, this is why the card game implies that the users partner is seeking inspiration for their own act by watching true crime, even though research would say that them watching this genre is completely normal. It attempts to be very apparent with the absurdity of this implication however, exposing how your fear or concern can be exploited through sensationalist media for corporate gain, in this case being that you have to buy the card game to stop these fears coming true.

Cyffrogarwch – “cyflwyno gwybodaeth mewn ffordd a fwriedir i ysgogi diddordeb neu gyffro, ar draul cywirdeb.”

Cynhyrchwyd llawer o ffurfiau ar gyfryngau cyffrogarol trwy gydol hanes i fanteisio ar bryderon y boblogaeth, o genre ffilmiau goresgyniad o’r gofod y 50au a 60au i sut mae cyfryngau cyfoes wedi adrodd ar gemau fideo a cherddoriaeth. Mae’r prosiect hwn hyn ceisio amlygu rhywfaint o afreswm cyfryngau cyffrogarol o gwmpas pwnc pam y byddai rhywun yn gwylio rhaglenni dogfen trosedd go iawn. Mae I’m worried! yn gêm gardiau sy’n ceisio pryfocio a chyffroi pryderon, gan awgrymu bod eich partner yn bwriadu llofruddio chi os yw wedi bod yn gwylio trosedd go iawn er y byddai’r mwyafrif o astudiaethau ar y mater yn awgrymu i’r gwrthwyneb. Mae cyfran fawr o achosion trosedd go iawn yn ymdrin â llofruddiaeth neu drosedd y mae un partner yn ei chyflawni ar y llall, dyma pam mae’r gêm gardiau’n awgrymu bod partner y defnyddiwr yn ceisio ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer ei weithred ei hun trwy wylio trosedd go iawn, er y byddai ymchwil yn awgrymu bod gwylio’r genre hwn yn hollol normal. Mae’n ceisio bod yn amlwg iawn o ran gwiriondeb yr awgrymiad hwn fodd bynnag, gan ddinoethi sut y gall cyfryngau cyffrogarol ecsbloetio eich gofid neu bryder er budd corfforaethol, yn yr achos hwn mae’n rhaid i chi brynu’r gêm gardiau i tal y gofidion hyn rhag cael eu gwireddu.
