BA (Hons) Interior Design

My design is focused on communicating and delivering empathy. Empathy can mean meeting the needs of the individual or the environment, which can be reflected through the use of materials, colours, and, ultimately, an individuals feelings.

The materials I work with always serve a purpose so that nothing is wasted: this can be for longevity, durability or to achieve the project’s goals. This can mean experimenting with different materials and not taking the path of least resistance. I believe I have a responsibility to achieve my design goals with the lowest environmental impact by reviewing and considering as many materials as possible.
I work with particular attention to the use of colour and the narrative of shapes and objects. In this way, I wish to continue to explore the historical and cultural connotations of objects, what they mean, and whether they can be iterated upon for modern use. I want to provide objects and designs – particularly those which have been forgotten – with a voice.

My process of design begins with inspiration, especially from objects. For example, to create a workstation, I was inspired by the comforting connotations of teacups and kettles. By replicating the shape of these objects, I hoped to produce a workspace that provided similar feelings that come with drinking tea or coffee.

This was an example of my playful approach and ability to produce visual narratives that provide a different perspective. I like designs that, on paper, shouldn’t work, but in reality, do

Mae fy nyluniad yn canolbwyntio ar gyfathrebu a chyflwyno empathi. Gall empathi olygu diwallu anghenion yr unigolyn neu’r amgylchedd, a all gael ei adlewyrchu trwy’r defnydd o ddeunyddiau, lliwiau ac, yn y pen draw, teimladau unigolyn.

Mae’r deunyddiau y gweithiaf â nhw bob amser yn cyflawni diben fel nad oes dim byd yn cael ei wastraffu: gall hyn fod er hirhoedledd, gwydnwch neu i gyflawni nodau’r prosiect. Gall hyn olygu arbrofi gyda deunyddiau gwahanol a pheidio â gwneud y peth lleiaf trafferthus. Credaf ei fod yn gyfrifoldeb arnaf i gyflawni fy nodau dylunio gyda’r effaith amgylcheddol isaf sy’n bosib trwy adolygu ac ystyried cynifer o ddeunyddiau â phosib.

Rwy’n gweithio gan roi sylw penodol i’r defnydd o liw a naratif siapiau a gwrthrychau. Trwy wneud hyn, dymunaf barhau i archwilio cynodiadau hanesyddol a diwylliannol gwrthrychau, beth maent yn ei olygu a pha un a ellir eu hailadrodd at ddefnydd modern ai beidio. Rwyf eisiau darparu llais i wrthrychau a dyluniadau – yn enwedig y rhai sydd wedi’u hanghofio.

Mae fy mhroses ddylunio’n dechrau gydag ysbrydoliaeth, yn enwedig gan wrthrychau. Er enghraifft, i greu gorsaf waith, ces i fy ysbrydoli gan gynodiadau cysurus paneidiau a thegellau. Trwy efelychu siâp y gwrthrychau hyn, gobeithiais greu gofod gwaith a ddarparodd deimladau tebyg i’r rhai a ddaw wrth gael paned o de neu goffi.
Dyma enghraifft o fy ymagwedd chwareus a gallu i gynhyrchu naratifau gweledol sy’n darparu persbectif gwahanol. Rwy’n hoffi dyluniadau na ddylent weithio ar bapur sy’n gweithio mewn realiti.
