In a personal pursuit to establish a deeper sense of identity, belonging and feeling through the world, I create work that calls attention to intuition as a valuable, primary source of knowledge. Emerging out from isolation and restrictions of the ongoing COVID19 pandemic has made me more aware of my behaviour around people, which has shifted my internal and external focus onto listening to how we interact with each other rather than the content of what we say. One aspect of my current practice is creating sound art, recording one-on-one conversations with my peers. Taking the inflections of two voices and converting their interaction into melodic notation bringing forth the musicality in our communication in the absence of words. I define this as ‘the frequency of feeling’. The other half of my practice is situated in self portraiture, documenting my appearance over time through experiences of loss, grief and fluctuating mental health. The contrasting elements of exposure and introspection within the vulnerability of daily self-portraiture work to evoke and enhance the intuitive nature of empathy, reminding us of the importance of compassion in unprecedented times. I take from the conventional nature of traditional portraiture and create realistic portraits, drawn with red pencil on paper. I present myself as I do to the world, while implementing my emotions through the medium and sustaining a sense of familiarity using materials from daily life.

Mewn ymgais bersonol i sefydlu ymdeimlad dyfnach o hunaniaeth, o berthyn a theimlad drwy’r byd, rwy’n creu gwaith sy’n tynnu sylw at reddf fel ffynhonnell werthfawr, gynradd o wybodaeth. Mae dod allan o arwahanrwydd a chyfyngiadau pandemig parhaus COVID-19 wedi fy ngwneud yn fwy ymwybodol o fy ymddygiad o amgylch pobl, gan symud fy ffocws mewnol ac allanol i wrando ar y modd rydym yn rhyngweithio. Un agwedd ar fy ngwaith cyfredol yw creu celf glywedol, recordio sgyrsiau wyneb yn wyneb gyda fy nghyfoedion. Cymryd ffurfdroadau dau lais a throsi eu rhyngweithiad yn nodiant melodig gan bwysleisio’r cerddgarwch yn ein cyfathrebiad yn absenoldeb geiriau. Rwy’n diffinio hyn fel ‘amledd teimlad’. Lleolir hanner arall fy ymarfer mewn hunanbortreadau, gan ddogfennu fy ymddangosiad dros gyfnod o amser drwy brofiadau colled, galar ac anwadalrwydd iechyd meddwl. Gweithia elfennau cyferbyniol amlygiad a mewnsylliad o fewn bregusrwydd hunanbortread dyddiol i ddwyn i gof a gwella natur reddfol empathi, gan ein hatgoffa o bwysigrwydd tosturi mewn cyfnod digynsail. Rwy’n cymryd oddi wrth natur gonfensiynol bortreadau traddodiadol ac yn creu portreadau realistig, wedi eu tynnu â phensil coch ar bapur. Rwy’n cyflwyno fy hun fel y gwnaf i’r byd, gan ddefnyddio fy emosiynau drwy’r cyfrwng a chynnal ymdeimlad o gynefindra drwy gyfrwng deunyddiau o fywyd bob dydd.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
