In my current practice I focus on modern day female issues, particularly hardships women have gone through in history. I’ve dissected this concept through many different mediums. The main and most successful outcomes being collage, digital print and textile. From working with fun aesthetics and colour pallets my work becomes playful and empowering whilst still representing the conceptual importance of historical and current female oppressions.

My work highlights the injustices of gender inequality that women still face and commemorates the journey women have taken to get to the progress we have made today. I aim to encourage my audience to tackle these issues and to open conversations about what needs to change and how. I do this by using bold imagery, symbolism and suggestive text in my practice which aims to entice the viewer to delve further into the work and question the intentions and representation my work possesses.

My final outcomes for this conceptual investigation are handmade masks based on the oppression women faced when subjected to the scold’s bridle and masks of infamy. This is to commemorate the devastation these devices caused women and re-imagine them driven by third wave feminist influence, reclaiming the masks to use as a tool of empowerment. This then encourages positive change whilst still commemorating the history of female oppression.

Yn fy ngwaith presennol rwy’n canolbwyntio ar faterion benywaidd yn y byd modern, yn enwedig y caledi y mae menywod wedi’i wynebu drwy hanes. Rwyf wedi dadansoddi’r cysyniad hwn drwy sawl cyfrwng gwahanol. Y prif ganlyniadau a’r rhai mwyaf llwyddiannus yw collage, printio digidol a thecstiliau. Drwy weithio gydag estheteg hwyliog a lliwgar mae fy ngwaith yn chwareus ac yn grymuso ac ar yr un pryd mae’n dal i gynrychioli pwysigrwydd cysyniadol y gorthrwm a wynebir gan fenywod ddoe a heddiw.

Mae fy ngwaith yn tynnu sylw at anghyfiawnder anghydraddoldeb rhywiol a wynebir gan fenywod heddiw o hyd ac mae’n coffáu taith menywod i gyflawni’r cynnydd a wnaed erbyn heddiw. Fy nod yw annog fy nghynulleidfa i fynd i’r afael â’r materion hyn a dechrau sgyrsiau am yr hyn sydd angen ei newid a sut. Gwnaf hyn drwy ddefnyddio delweddau beiddgar, symbolaeth a thestun awgrymog yn fy ngwaith sydd â’r nod o annog y gynulleidfa i gloddio ymhellach i mewn i’r gwaith a chwestiynu bwriadau fy ngwaith a’r hyn y mae’n ei gynrychioli.

Fy nghanlyniadau olaf ar gyfer yr ymchwiliad cysyniadol hwn yw mygydau a wnaed â llaw sy’n seiliedig ar y gorthrwm a wynebwyd gan fenywod drwy’r defnydd o enfâu cecren a mygydau cywilydd. Mae hyn yn coffâu’r distryw a achosodd y dyfeisiau hyn i fenywod a’u hail-lunio drwy ddylanwad ffeministiaeth trydydd ton, gan ailhawlio’r mygydau i’w defnyddio fel dulliau grymuso. Yna, mae hyn yn annog newid cadarnhaol wrth goffáu hanes gorthrwm menywod.

My work explores the relationship between a space and the art in it. I have become intrigued by how a painting can effect a space, exploring corporate art, it can be used to influence productivity and creativity in that environment. With influence from Colour Theory,...

We have never been so connected yet so alone. The internet has become integral to our daily lives, no element of our existence seems untouched by it. But have we been caught and paralysed in the web? We are constantly on display and exposed, yet anonymous. We seem to...

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
