I aim to spark a cognitive debate within the observer through the frustration of wanting to know the story with no answer, and the pull of staring a moment longer. Enticing their voyeuristic tendencies of taking a second glance through the window to the lit interior is contrasted when they are presented in the form of a painting, a thing intended to be looked at. With this engagement, my paintings are presented in such a way as to replicate a midnight stroll, the paintings being the lit windows against the dark night. From my personal memories of glances of glowing windows and partial features of the rooms within, I preserve a suggested narrative, composing many different elements of memories and experiences distorted in design and style, to hint at the many possibilities of a story through the medium of paint. I believe the viewers answer to is a reflection upon themselves and their imagination.
Fy mwriad yw tanio dadl wybyddol o fewn y gwyliedydd drwy’r rhwystredigaeth o fod eisiau gwybod y stori heb ateb, a’r dynfa i syllu am eiliad yn hirach. Mae denu eu tueddiadau voyeuraidd o gymryd ail olwg i’r tu mewn drwy’r ffenestr sydd wedi’i goleuo yn cael ei gyferbynnu o’u cyflwyno ar ffurf paentiad, peth y bwriedir edrych arno. Gyda’r ymwneud yma, mae fy mheintiadau’n cael eu cyflwyno mewn modd i ddynwared mynd am dro ganol nos, gyda’r peintiadau’n gweithredu fel ffenestri goleuedig yn erbyn tywyllwch y nos. O ran fy atgofion personol o ambell gipolwg ar ffenestri disglair a nodweddion rhannol yr ystafelloedd oddi mewn, rwy’n cynnal naratif awgrymedig, gan gyfansoddi llawer o wahanol elfennau o atgofion a phrofiadau wedi’u gwyrdroi o ran cynllun ac arddull, i awgrymu posibiliadau niferus stori drwy gyfrwng paent. Credaf mai adlewyrchiad ohonynt eu hunain a’u dychymyg yw ateb y gwylwyr hefyd.
