“As a designer I am heavily inspired by nature. Growing up, my childhood was spent with my horses, surrounded by the most beautiful things found in nature. I spent many days creating and exploring, making dens in the ferns, running barefoot and simply feeling free. I have fond memories of hours spent exploring the countryside, the feeling of freedom and connection to nature flows naturally within me. This way of living taught me to appreciate the beauty of the natural world, teaching me to make use of what I have around me and to source naturally and sustainably. Connecting my childhood to that of the Romany Gypsy’s, my collection, Gypsy Soul is based upon the life of the Romany Gypsy’s, taking inspiration from their free-spirited souls and love for nature. Their freedom to travel and live a slower pace of life truly resonated within me. Inspired by the Gypsy way of ‘making something from nothing’, I have sourced materials I have around me to create unique designs of which are focused upon giving discarded items a new purpose & simply showcasing the beauty in sustainability. My designs are very textile based, using traditional techniques such as macrame, crochet, natural dyeing and felting, creating beautifully handcrafted designs. A focus upon my collection is to create little to no waste through my design process, ensuring that my garments are made with great care and precision. My fabrics are primarily up-cycled, sourced from pre-owned linen, giving my garments a free flowing, relaxed silhouette.”

“Fel dylunydd, fe’m hysbrydolir yn fawr gan fyd natur. Wrth dyfu i fyny, treuliwyd fy mhlentyndod gyda fy ngheffylau, wedi’m hamgylchynu gan y pethau harddaf a ganfuwyd ym myd natur. Treuliais ddyddiau lawer yn creu ac yn archwilio, yn gwneud deniau yn y rhedyn, yn rhedeg yn droednoeth ac yn teimlo’n rhydd. Mae gen i atgofion melys o dreulio oriau yn archwilio cefn gwlad, mae’r ymdeimlad o ryddid a chysylltiad â natur yn llifo’n naturiol oddi mewn i mi. Dysgodd y ffordd hon o fyw i mi werthfawrogi harddwch y byd naturiol, gan fy nysgu i wneud defnydd o’r hyn sydd gennyf o’m cwmpas ac i ddod o hyd iddo’n naturiol ac yn gynaliadwy. Gan gysylltu fy mhlentyndod â phlentyndod y Sipsi Romani, mae fy nghasgliad, ‘Gypsy Soul’ yn seiliedig ar fywyd y Sipsi Romani, gan gymryd ysbrydoliaeth gan eu heneidiau ysbryd rhydd a’u cariad at natur. Roedd eu rhyddid i deithio a byw bywyd arafach yn wirioneddol berthnasol i mi. Wedi fy ysbrydoli gan ffordd y Sipsi o ‘wneud rhywbeth o ddim’, rwyf wedi dod o hyd i ddeunyddiau sydd gennyf o’m cwmpas i greu dyluniadau unigryw sy’n canolbwyntio ar roi pwrpas newydd i eitemau a gaiff eu taflu ac yn syml arddangos yr harddwch mewn cynaliadwyedd. Seilir fy nyluniadau yn fawr iawn ar decstilau, gan ddefnyddio technegau traddodiadol fel macrame, crosio, lliwio naturiol a ffeltio, gan greu dyluniadau wedi’u gwneud â llaw. Ffocws ar fy nghasgliad yw creu ychydig i ddim gwastraff drwy fy mhroses dylunio, gan sicrhau bod fy nillad yn cael eu gwneud gyda gofal a manylder mawr. Mae fy ffabrigau wedi’u huwchgylchu’n bennaf o liain a gyn-berchnogwyd, gan roi silwét hamddenol sy’n llifo’n rhydd i’m dillad.”
