Millie Rose Belding

BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

I am a Welsh artist and designer specialising in Ceramics and Textiles. My work focuses on promoting sustainability in the design and production of a series of decorative homewares.

This design series is inspired by traditional Welsh blanket design, it seeks to provide those with Welsh heritage a feeling of comfort, recognition and security whilst also introducing those less familiar with Welsh blanket design a taste of our rich cultural heritage. I aim to both spotlight Welsh history whilst implementing an explorative and modern twist in functional art form.

The bold, vibrant colours and patterns used are emblematic of traditional throws, and the handcrafted forms have been intentionally designed to give the user a sense of strength, quality and comfort. The forms retain their handmade crafted qualities giving a sense of uniqueness and loving imperfection. The glaze colours are pastel, intentionally giving a contemporary twist to the bold palette of welsh pattern design.

Artist a chynllunydd o Gymru ydw i sy’n arbenigo mewn Cerameg a Thecstiliau. Mae fy ngwaith yn canolbwyntio ar hybu cynaliadwyedd wrth gynllunio a chreu cyfres o nwyddau cartref addurniadol.

Ysbrydolwyd y gyfres ddylunio hon gan ddyluniad blancedi Cymreig traddodiadol, gan geisio rhoi teimlad o gysur, cydnabyddiaeth a diogelwch i’r rhai a chanddynt dreftadaeth Gymreig tra hefyd yn cyflwyno blas o’n treftadaeth ddiwylliannol gyfoethog i’r rhai sy’n llai cyfarwydd â dyluniad blancedi Cymreig. Fy nod yw rhoi sylw i hanes Cymru gan roi tro arbrofol a modern ar waith mewn celf swyddogaethol.

Mae’r lliwiau a’r patrymau trawiadol, lliwgar sy’n cael eu defnyddio yn nodweddiadol o flancedi traddodiadol, ac mae’r ffurfiau a wnaed â llaw wedi’u cynllunio’n fwriadol i roi’r ymdeimlad o gryfder, ansawdd a chysur i’r defnyddiwr. Mae’r ffurfiau yn cynnal eu rhinweddau crefftus wedi’u gwneud â llaw gan roi ymdeimlad o unigrywiaeth ac amherffeithrwydd cariadus. Pastel yw lliwiau’r gwydredd, gan roi tro bwriadol gyfoes i’r paled mentrus o gynlluniau patrwm Cymreig.
