BA (Hons) Interior Design

I have always been interested in the relationship between interior spaces and their ability to generate specific feelings, whether that being at home or in the workplace. Considering that we all spend the majority of our lives indoors, it is important that the spaces we inhabit provide a sense of enjoyment, thus allowing them to contribute to our general wellbeing. This enjoyment can be achieved through the introduction of colours, textures and quirky design touches that improve not only the aesthetic look of the space, but it’s overall function. Design often falls into a monotonous pattern of trends and boundaries which dictate what people should and shouldn’t want, so I often try to create spaces that promote the client’s self-expression rather than what makes a good impression. I believe that a successful design is one that balances functionality, sustainability and aesthetics, so that a space can be admired and used efficiently whilst also contributing positively to the planet’s wellbeing. As a designer, I feel a responsibility to use my projects to encourage inclusivity and accessibility, so that everyone gets an equal opportunity to experience all aspects of the interior. This is something I have developed into my most recent project by creating pottery wheels that also accommodate wheelchair users, so all participants are seen as equals within the studio. I hope that as I continue on my journey as a designer, I am able to create more spaces that encourage a positive and fulfilling experience.

Bu gen i ddiddordeb yn y berthynas rhwng gofodau mewnol a’u gallu i greu teimladau penodol erioed, boed hynny gartref neu yn y gweithle. O ystyried ein bod ni i gyd yn treulio mwyafrif ein bywydau y tu mewn, mae’n bwysig bod y mannau rydyn ni’n eu preswylio’n darparu ymdeimlad o fwynhad, gan ganiatáu iddyn nhw gyfrannu at ein lles cyffredinol. Gellir cyflawni’r mwynhad hwn trwy gyflwyno lliwiau, gweadau a chyffyrddiadau dylunio anarferol sy’n gwella nid yn unig edrychiad esthetig y gofod, ond ei swyddogaeth gyffredinol. Yn aml, mae dylunio’n disgyn i batrwm undonog o ffasiwn a ffiniau sy’n pennu’r hyn y dylai ac na ddylai pobl fod arnynt eu heisiau. Felly rwy’n aml yn ceisio creu mannau sy’n hyrwyddo hunanfynegiant y cleient yn hytrach na’r hyn sy’n gwneud argraff dda. Credaf fod dyluniad llwyddiannus yn un sy’n cydbwyso ymarferoldeb, cynaliadwyedd ac estheteg, fel y gellir edmygu a defnyddio man yn effeithlon wrth hefyd gyfrannu’n gadarnhaol at les y blaned. Fel dylunydd, rwy’n teimlo cyfrifoldeb i ddefnyddio fy mhrosiectau i annog cynwysoldeb a hygyrchedd, fel bod pawb yn cael cyfle cyfartal i brofi pob agwedd ar yr ystafell. Mae hyn yn rhywbeth a ddatblygais yn fy mhrosiect diweddaraf trwy greu olwynion crochenwaith sydd hefyd yn addas ar gyfer defnyddwyr cadeiriau olwyn, felly mae’r holl gyfranogwyr yn cael eu hystyried yn gydradd yn y stiwdio. Wrth imi barhau ar fy nhaith fel dylunydd, rwy’n gobeithio y gallaf greu rhagor o fannau sy’n annog profiad cadarnhaol a boddhaus.
