Through mixed medias such as drawing, painting and photography, my work explores the connection built up between people, objects and their environment. I capture people within their own environment surrounded by their possessions, indicating a visual depiction of the juxtaposition between these elements. I feel this kind of attachment and connection to certain belongings and surroundings is an extension of the self.

The process of these paintings begins with digitally photographing the subject and then is fully investigated through acrylics on board. Portraiture has been the focus of my work for many years. I attempt to capture emotion and expression through my paintings and I feel I discover a great deal about someone once I have painted or drawn them. Photography (analogue and digital) assists me in capturing the subject naturally and sincerely, I consider photography to be like an initial sketch. My work with analogue and digital photography involves an amateur street photography/ photojournalism practice, investigating the environment of my portraiture subjects and their connection to the surroundings of where they live.

Drwy gyfryngau cymysg fel darlunio, paentio a ffotograffiaeth, mae fy ngwaith yn archwilio’r cysylltiad a wneir rhwng pobl, gwrthrychau a’u hamgylchedd. Rwy’n dal pobl yn eu hamgylchedd eu hunain yng nghanol eu heiddo personol, sy’n rhoi portread gweledol o’r gyfatebiaeth rhwng yr elfennau hyn. Rwy’n teimlo bod y math hwn o ymlyniad a chysylltiad ag eiddo ac amgylcheddau penodol yn estyniad o’r hunan.

Mae proses y paentiadau hyn yn dechrau drwy gymryd ffotograff digidol o’r unigolyn ac yna caiff ei ymchwilio’n llawn drwy acrylig ar fwrdd. Mae fy ngwaith wedi canolbwyntio ar bortreadau ers sawl blwyddyn. Rwy’n ceisio dal emosiwn a mynegiant drwy fy mhaentiadau ac rwy’n teimlo fy mod yn dysgu llawer am rywun pan fyddaf wedi’i baentio neu ei ddarlunio. Mae ffotograffiaeth (analog a digidol) yn fy helpu i ddal yr unigolyn yn naturiol ac yn ddiffuant. Rwy’n ystyried bod ffotograffiaeth fel braslun cychwynnol. Mae fy ngwaith â ffotograffiaeth analog a digidol yn cynnwys ffotograffiaeth stryd amatur/gwaith ffotonewyddiaduraeth, gan archwilio amgylchedd gwrthrychau fy mhortreadau a’u cysylltiad ag amgylchedd lle maent yn byw.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
