BA (Hons) Illustration

My project is a response to a brief inspired by the Apila’s First Printing Award 2022. The aim was to create a fully illustrated children’s book based on a story of my choice – ‘The Frog Princess’ by A. J. Gliński.

I wanted to combine the Polish culture with my practice as it is something I have never done before as well as making a fully realised book. It was an opportunity to develop my skills further and become more of a professional artist. I took on various exercises such as world building and character design. I would describe my work as whimsical and lighthearted as it explores either daily life scenarios or stories with happy endings.

With this project I hope to introduce people to a new world that they may have never seen before and encourage them to explore it.

Mae fy mhrosiect yn ymateb i friff a ysbrydolwyd gan Wobr Argraffu Gyntaf Apila 2022. Y nod oedd creu llyfr plant wedi’i ddarlunio’n llawn yn seiliedig ar stori o’m dewis i – ‘The Frog Princess’ gan A. J. Gliński.

Roeddwn i eisiau cyfuno’r diwylliant Pwylaidd gyda’m hymarfer gan ei fod yn rhywbeth nad ydw i wedi’i wneud erioed o’r blaen yn ogystal â chreu llyfr wedi’i wireddu’n llawn. Roedd yn gyfle i ddatblygu fy sgiliau ymhellach a dod yn fwy o artist proffesiynol. Fe wnes i ymarferion amrywiol fel adeiladu byd a dylunio cymeriadau. Byddwn yn disgrifio fy ngwaith fel ysmala ac ysgafn wrth iddo archwilio naill ai senarios bywyd bob dydd neu straeon â diweddglo hapus.

Gyda’r prosiect hwn rwy’n gobeithio cyflwyno pobl i fyd newydd nad ydyn nhw wedi’i weld erioed o’r blaen a’u hannog nhw i’w archwilio.
