Olivia Smallbone

BA (Hons) Illustration

Olivia Smallbone is a mixed media illustrator who creates immersive worlds with her use of 3D sets which respond to narratives or global issues. She works with clay, found objects, and papercraft, incorporating moving image and interactivity to add a sense of playfulness and warmth within her work. Her crafted images have a variety of applications, whether for advertisement or awareness campaigns, whilst the underlying aim of her practice is to educate an audience.

This project, Colour the Corals, is an animated campaign aimed at older children and adults. It is intended to educate them on the coral bleaching crisis, and help them understand why and how humanity is causing the destruction of coral reefs. It promotes small changes everyone can make to help our seas. The project uses clay and papercraft to illustrate the themes in an interesting and imaginative way, engaging the audience and making the information digestible.
