Proxemics: an invasion of personal space.

All these people-producers,coaxers,consumers-are engaged in assembling life story actions around lives, events and happenings-although they cannot grasp the actual life. At the centre of much of this action emerge the story products:the objects which harbour the meanings that have to be handled through interaction. These congeal or freeze already pre-constituted moments of a life from the story teller and the coaxer and await the handling of a reader or consumer.“(Plummer,1995)

A collection of objects that manifest my state of mind, specifically my own experiences with mental ill health. This arrangement of pieces is a conversation between thoughts, using the objects as props or stand-ins for life events.

Being private is difficult when making autobiographical work, so in response I have developed an enigmatic approach that accentuates the void between myself and the audience. That allows for a separation between
baring all and allowing just enough of myself to be translated, staging a pseudo-autobiography inspired by Michael Fried’s research into art and theatricality.

My work blends fragments of memory, humour, emotion and fiction into images that depict slightly distorted female figures caught in pensive moments, alluding to the idea that there is a witness present, and that their watching is somehow intrusive or forbidden. Yet...

My work has evolved through an investigation into contemporary societies and the concept that modern civilisations have transitioned from a 'solid’ to 'liquid’ modernity. This means that we no longer seek a well-ordered world of stable structures but desire a world in...

The costumes of Tibet are gorgeous and colorful, and the simplicity and kindness of Tibet girls are very attractive to me.

"My painting process begins with searching through photographs of the 1960s and 70s. My work is a 21st century post impressionism experience based on images from 20th century popular culture. I paint quickly in order to record my own fluid sense of nostalgia for that...
