Proxemics: an invasion of personal space.

All these people-producers,coaxers,consumers-are engaged in assembling life story actions around lives, events and happenings-although they cannot grasp the actual life. At the centre of much of this action emerge the story products:the objects which harbour the meanings that have to be handled through interaction. These congeal or freeze already pre-constituted moments of a life from the story teller and the coaxer and await the handling of a reader or consumer.“(Plummer,1995)

A collection of objects that manifest my state of mind, specifically my own experiences with mental ill health. This arrangement of pieces is a conversation between thoughts, using the objects as props or stand-ins for life events.

Being private is difficult when making autobiographical work, so in response I have developed an enigmatic approach that accentuates the void between myself and the audience. That allows for a separation between
baring all and allowing just enough of myself to be translated, staging a pseudo-autobiography inspired by Michael Fried’s research into art and theatricality.
