Nepal, as a nation has suffered for many decades – from natural disasters to a corrupt government. The 2015 catastrophic earthquake was the last straw for the people; hope became extinct. Prayer flag holds very powerful symbols – it is believed that they spread peace and prosperity. These flags can be found proudly soaring in the sky from the east of Nepal to the west, yet peace is not obtainable – and without peace there is no hope.

Last year I had returned to Nepal after 12 years. Although it was the same place and the same people, however there was a sense of defeat. This collection stems from my own frustration and from the despair from my nation. The collection translates this extinction of hope in a chaotic and tormented world with the use of prayer flags, the representation of peace.

Mae Nepal, fel cenedl wedi dioddef ers degawdau lawer – o drychinebau naturiol i lywodraeth lwgr. Daeargryn trychinebus 2015 oedd y diwedd i’r bobl; diffoddodd gobaith. Mae gan y faner gweddi symbolau pwerus iawn – credir eu bod yn lledaenu heddwch a ffyniant. Gellir dod o hyd i’r fflagiau hyn yn hedfan yn falch yn yr awyr o ddwyrain Nepal i’r gorllewin, ac eto ni ellir cael heddwch – a heb heddwch nid oes gobaith.

Y llynedd roeddwn wedi dychwelyd i Nepal ar ôl 12 mlynedd. Er mai’r un lle a’r un bobl ydoedd, fodd bynnag roedd ymdeimlad o drechu. Mae’r casgliad hwn yn deillio o’m rhwystredigaeth fy hun ac o’r anobaith o’m cenedl. Mae’r casgliad yn trosi’r gobaith hwn mewn byd anhrefnus a dan artaith gyda’r defnydd o faneri gweddi, sy’n cynrychioli heddwch.
