I believe in finding beauty in the irregularity of nature, the endless possibilities of life show us that nothing is impossible. I use clay for its ability to be malleable enough that it can be manipulated into the shapes inside my mind and through heat become strong and resolute. Using the art of ceramic glaze, I can produce infinite varieties of texture, colour and effects, both mimicking that of nature and abstracting it to celebrate the simplest of forms.

My current project challenges the idea of mass production verses making by hand, putting focus on the uniqueness of each piece within a mass collection. I have chosen to celebrate seeds to show how important beginnings are, by focusing on small and often forgotten origins of plant life. Just as a seed is essential to growing a plant and how that plant can produce many more seeds, a thought is essential to an idea that can grow to solve many problems and generate infinite thoughts.

Hand-building approximately six hundred ceramic seeds, bulbs and nuts out of a variety of clay bodies gives me the option to showcase the endless beauty of glaze and how it can enchant the viewer. Each individual seed is numbered in the order of which they were made to give an individuality and importance to each piece. When placed together the hundreds of seeds will become a powerful message of the significance of small ideas when they unite, whilst visually showing a taxonomy of organic beauty.

Dwi’n credu mewn dod o hyd i harddwch yn afreoleidd-dra natur, mae posibiliadau diddiwedd bywyd yn dangos i ni nad oes dim yn amhosib. Dwi’n defnyddio clai oherwydd ei allu i fod yn ddigon hydrin fel y gellir ei droi’n siapiau y tu mewn i’m meddwl a thrwy wres droi’n gryf ac yn gadarn. Gan ddefnyddio celfyddyd gwydredd ceramig, gallaf gynhyrchu amrywiadau di-ben-draw o wead, lliw ac effeithiau, gan efelychu’r hyn a geir ym myd natur a’i grynhoi i ddathlu’r ffurfiau symlaf.

Mae fy mhrosiect presennol yn herio’r syniad o fasgynhyrchu o gymharu â gwneud â llaw, gan ganolbwyntio ar gymeriad unigryw pob darn o fewn casgliad torfol. Dwi wedi dewis dathlu hadau i ddangos pa mor bwysig yw dechreuadau, gan ganolbwyntio ar ddechreuad bach planhigion, sy’n angof yn aml. Yn union fel y mae hadau yn hanfodol i dyfu planhigyn a sut gall y planhigyn hwnnw gynhyrchu llawer mwy o hadau, mae meddwl yn hanfodol i syniad a all dyfu i ddatrys llawer o broblemau a chynhyrchu meddyliau di-ben-draw.

Mae creu tua chwe chant o hadau ceramig, bylbiau a chnau â llaw o amrywiol ddarnau o glai yn rhoi’r opsiwn i mi arddangos harddwch diddiwedd gwydredd a sut gall swyno’r gwyliwr. Mae pob hedyn unigol wedi’i rifo yn y drefn y cafodd ei greu i roi unigoliaeth a phwysigrwydd i bob darn. Gyda’i gilydd bydd y cannoedd o hadau’n dod yn neges bwerus o arwyddocâd syniadau bach pan fyddant yn uno, ond gan ddangos tacsonomeg harddwch organig yn weledol.
