My artwork uses visual storytelling to explore themes around women and history. I enjoy responding to narratives and retelling stories in fresh ways. The medium I have recently focused on is screen-printing, I am fascinated by its bold and crisp appearance. I often use a lot of negative space in my artwork to bring more focus to the important parts of the story. My work is stylized and aims at an audience which includes children aged between 9 and 13, but also engages with adult readers.

The current project explores Welsh folklore and is visually responding to a story about Branwen, a Welsh princess. Branwen is captured and locked away for several years and then befriends a starling who helps to set her free. There are dark themes in this story around abuse, and female mistreatment. Therefore, I have created an emotive visual language through expressive body language, composition and a very minimalistic colour palette.

The previous project is a visual retelling of the story of Rosa Parks, who famously refused to give up her bus seat to a white man and was arrested for doing so. It explores the struggles and injustice of the black community in 1950s America and the fight for civil rights, also how one woman helped to make a positive change in society.

Mae fy ngwaith celf yn defnyddio adrodd storïau gweledol i archwilio themâu yn ymwneud â menywod a hanes. Rwy’n mwynhau ymateb i naratifau ac ailadrodd storïau mewn ffyrdd ffres. Y cyfrwng rwyf wedi canolbwyntio arno yn ddiweddar yw sgrin-brintio, rwyf wedi fy nghyfareddu gan ei olwg feiddgar a chrych. Rwy’n aml yn defnyddio llawer o ofod negyddol yn fy ngwaith celf i ddod â mwy o ffocws i rannau pwysig y stori. Mae fy ngwaith wedi’i steilio ac yn anelu at gynulleidfa sy’n cynnwys plant rhwng 9 a 13 oed, ond sydd hefyd yn ymgysylltu ag oedolion sy’n darllen.

Mae’r prosiect presennol yn archwilio llên gwerin Cymru ac yn ymateb yn weledol i stori am Branwen, tywysoges Gymreig. Mae Branwen yn cael ei chipio a’i chloi i ffwrdd am nifer o flynyddoedd ac yna’n dod yn ffrind i ddrudwen sy’n helpu i’w rhyddhau. Mae themâu tywyll yn y stori hon yn ymwneud â chamdriniaeth, a cham-drin merched. Felly, rwyf wedi creu iaith weledol emosiynol trwy iaith gorfforol fynegiannol, cyfansoddiad a phalet lliw minimol iawn.

Mae’r prosiect blaenorol yn ailadroddiad gweledol o stori Rosa Parks, a oedd yn enwog am wrthod ildio ei sedd bws i ddyn gwyn ac a gafodd ei harestio am wneud hynny. Mae’n archwilio brwydrau ac anghyfiawnder y gymuned ddu yn America’r 1950au a’r frwydr dros hawliau sifil, hefyd sut helpodd un fenyw i wneud newid cadarnhaol mewn cymdeithas.
