The beach of bricks and mortar is a result of Cardiff’s industrial revolution. The beach in the city that found it’s glory in the coal and carbon industries. Industries that ran the dross out into the ocean. Splott Beach holds an archive of materials that have been dumped, poured and even washed a shore. This project focuses on these materials, using them as a source of inspiration and basis for making art. It brings Splott Beach to an audience. I want people to see the toll the carbon industry has had on the local area and to think about this on a larger scale. That of a world that now is built upon carbon industries that continue to pollute the planet.

In my work I encourage a thoughtful attitude towards the material culture in our homes and public spaces. I approach issues within late capitalism, such as waste, consumption and pollution, with a light heart and a sense of humour, as a counterpoint against these difficult situations. I use the bi-products of industrialisation and mass production to fuel my creative process. As an artist whose work spans across multiple disciplines, I use found objects with film, sculpture, painting and poetry. With my resourceful approach to making I produce visual works that re-consider and re-frame the materials of a throw-away society.

Canlyniad chwyldro diwydiannol Caerdydd yw’r traeth o frics a morter. Y traeth yn y ddinas a welodd ei ogoniant yn y diwydiannau glo a charbon. Diwydiannau a oedd yn anfon y gwaddodion i’r môr. Mae gan Draeth Sblot archif o ddeunyddiau sydd wedi’u dympio, eu tywallt a’u golchi i’r lan hyd yn oed. Mae’r prosiect hwn yn canolbwyntio ar y deunyddiau hyn, gan eu defnyddio fel ffynhonnell ysbrydoliaeth a sail ar gyfer gwneud celf. Mae’n cyflwyno Traeth Sblot i gynulleidfa. Dwi am i bobl weld yr effaith mae’r diwydiant carbon wedi’i gael ar yr ardal leol ac i feddwl am hyn ar raddfa fwy. Meddwl am fyd sydd wedi’i adeiladu ar ddiwydiannau carbon bellach sy’n parhau i lygru’r blaned.

Yn fy ngwaith rwy’n annog agwedd feddylgar tuag at y diwylliant materol yn ein cartrefi a’n mannau cyhoeddus. Dwi’n ymdrin â materion o fewn cyfalafiaeth ddiweddar, fel gwastraff, defnyddio a llygredd, gydag ysgafnder yn fy nghalon a doniolwch, fel gwrthgyferbyniad i’r sefyllfaoedd anodd hyn. Dwi’n defnyddio sgil-gynhyrchion diwydiannu a masgynhyrchu i fwydo fy mhroses greadigol. Fel artist y mae ei gwaith yn pontio nifer o ddisgyblaethau, dwi’n defnyddio gwrthrychau a ddarganfuwyd gyda ffilm, cerflunwaith, peintio a barddoniaeth. Gyda’m hagwedd ddyfeisgar tuag at wneud, dwi’n cynhyrchu gwaith gweledol sy’n ailystyried ac yn ail-fframio deunyddiau cymdeithas sy’n taflu popeth.
