Rosina Rooke

BA (Hons) Illustration

A Cardiff based artist, originally from the Valleys, who focuses on the embrace of life of animate and inanimate objects and bringing a message to their meanings. Exhibited is Rosina Rooke’s latest project work, the decay of food over time.

I specialise in a variety of mediums and enjoy experimenting with different methods and techniques; my main focuses are painting, digital and watercolour. Some of the subjects I have previously focused on and continue to study is portraiture, still life, animated images. When it comes to illustration, I embed text to support that illustrative message i.e., poetry, informative text, persuasive text. I don’t specify to any themes, I’m very open to a variety of themes. I like the think themes fit around my work rather than fitting my work around themes. I’ve always enjoyed capturing still life portraits, interpreting this into my illustration, I’ve studied still life in a timely manner. My work entails the beginning and end of a piece of fruit’s life.

My professional interest in still life comes from the inspiration of Georgia O’Keeffe’s Ram’s Head, White Hollyhock-Hills. Studying his work at 14, I began sketching still life through bones and animal skulls. Since this, I’ve studied a variety of inanimate objects. However, my target audience are those who are interested in metaphorical studies, using imagery to convey a topic.

Artist yng Nghaerdydd, yn wreiddiol o’r Cymoedd, sy’n canolbwyntio ar fywyd gwrthrychau byw a difywyd a dod â neges i’w hystyr. Arddangosir gwaith prosiect diweddaraf Rosina Rooke, pydredd bwyd dros amser.

Rwy’n arbenigo mewn amrywiaeth o gyfryngau ac yn mwynhau arbrofi gyda gwahanol ddulliau a thechnegau; rwy’n canolbwyntio’n bennaf ar beintio, digidol a dyfrlliw. Rydw i wedi canolbwyntio ar bortreadau, bywyd llonydd a delweddau wedi’u hanimeiddio yn y gorffennol ac rwy’n parhau i roi sylw iddyn nhw. O ran darlunio, rwy’n ymgorffori testun i gefnogi’r neges ddarluniadol honno h.y., barddoniaeth, testun sy’n hysbysu, testun sy’n darbwyllo. Dydw i ddim yn canolbwyntio ar unrhyw themâu penodol, Rwy’n agored iawn i amrywiaeth o themâu. Rwy’n hoffi meddwl bod themâu yn cyd-fynd â’m gwaith yn hytrach na gwneud i’m gwaith gyd-fynd â themâu. Rydw i wedi mwynhau creu portreadau bywyd llonydd erioed, gan ddehongli hyn yn fy ngwaith darlunio, rydw i wedi astudio bywyd llonydd mewn modd amserol. Mae fy ngwaith yn cynnwys dechrau a diwedd bywyd ffrwyth.

Ram’s Head, White Hollyhock-Hills gan Georgia O’Keeffe sydd wedi ysbrydoli fy niddordeb proffesiynol mewn bywyd llonydd. Gan astudio ei waith pan oeddwn yn 14 oed, dechreuais fraslunio bywyd llonydd gan ddefnyddio esgyrn a phenglogau anifeiliaid. Ers hynny, rydw i wedi astudio amrywiaeth o wrthrychau difywyd. Fodd bynnag, fy nghynulleidfa darged yw’r rhai sydd â diddordeb mewn astudiaethau trosiadol, gan ddefnyddio delweddau i gyfleu pwnc.
