“Art is not, as the metaphysicians say, the manifestation of some mysterious idea of beauty or God; it is not, as the aesthetical physiologists say, a game in which man lets off his excess of stored-up energy; it is not the expression of man’s emotions by external signs; it is not the production of pleasing objects; and, above all, it is not pleasure; but it is a means of union among men, joining them together in the same feelings, and indispensable for the life and progress toward well-being of individuals and of humanity.”

Leo Tolstoy – What is Art?

Take ‘Union’ more simply: An association. That is what I as an individual do. I am creating a union between class, context and the medium. A formula of this makes up the ideology I follow.

My collection reflects my perception of historical class boundaries and a merger with the modern need to be more conscious of how we, as in ourselves, impact the entities and things around us.

Through this viewpoint, I have used ideas from traditional menswear and workwear to produce this body of work.

“Nid datgeliad o ryw syniad dirgel o harddwch neu Dduw, fel y dywed metaffisegwyr, yw celfyddyd; nid, fel y dywed y ffisiolegwyr esthetaidd, gêm lle mae dyn yn rhyddhau gormodedd egni a storiwyd; nid mynegiant o emosiynau dyn drwy arwyddion allanol; nid creu gwrthrychau dymunol; ac, yn fwy na dim, nid pleser; ond mae’n fodd o uno dynion, eu cysylltu â’i gilydd yn yr un teimladau, ac mae’n anhepgor ar gyfer y bywyd a’r datblygiad tuag at les unigolion a dynoliaeth.”

Leo Tolstoy – Beth yw Celfyddyd?

Cymerwch ‘Uno’ yn fwy syml: Cysylltiad Dyna beth rwyf i fel unigolyn yn ei wneud. Rwy’n uno dosbarth, cyd-destun a chyfrwng. Fformiwla’n seiliedig ar hyn sy’n creu’r ideoleg rwy’n ei ddilyn.

Mae fy nghasgliad yn adlewyrchu fy nghanfyddiad o ffiniau dosbarth hanesyddol ac uniad â’r angen modern i fod yn fwy ymwybodol o’r modd rydym, fel ni ein hunain, yn effeithio ar endidau a’r pethau sydd o’n cwmpas.

Ar sail y safbwynt hwn, rwyf wedi defnyddio syniadau o ddillad traddodiadol dynion a dillad gwaith i greu’r corff hwn o waith.
