BA (Hons) Product Design

To explore new and creative ways to develop products using sustainable methods and materials. Design for me is about expressing human thoughts and feelings creatively from the visual 2D conceptual drafts, to the CAD work and finally becoming a 3D form. A good design should bring together all aspects of aesthetics, form and function making it physically beautiful, without compromising or sacrificing the practical application of the product.

I use sketches to develop initial designs then using CAD to fine tune the design in 3D, taking advantage of the deeper understanding of its real form to become the product. I feel passionately about using drawing and model making which is an area where I really excel. I find it exciting to see the form come to life throughout the design process. A big part of this process is developing ideas as part of a group, I find the dynamic environment of group discussions extremely useful which I found vital to develop the ideas for our recent live project with DS Smith to a successful conclusion!

I feel passionately in the need to produce designs and end products to a professional standard. I feel it’s important to express my ideas sincerely and clearly, bringing a strong voice when discussing my work whilst still taking on board critique. This dynamic approach is so important as it keeps the whole design process focused on its original goal within a creative environment.

Archwilio ffyrdd newydd a chreadigol o ddatblygu cynhyrchion gan ddefnyddio dulliau a deunyddiau cynaliadwy. I mi mae dylunio’n ymwneud â mynegi meddyliau a theimladau dynol yn greadigol o’r drafftiau cysyniadol 2D gweledol, i’r gwaith CAD a dod yn ffurf 3D yn y pen draw. Dylai dyluniad da ddwyn ynghyd pob agwedd ar estheteg, ffurf a swyddogaeth gan ei wneud yn brydferth yn ffisegol, heb gyfaddawdu nac aberthu’r defnydd ymarferol o’r cynnyrch.

Rwy’n defnyddio brasluniau i ddatblygu dyluniadau cychwynnol ac yna’n defnyddio CAD i fireinio’r dyluniad mewn 3D, gan fanteisio ar y ddealltwriaeth ddyfnach o’i ffurf wirioneddol i ddod yn gynnyrch. Rwy’n teimlo’n angerddol am ddefnyddio lluniadu a gwneud modelau, sy’n faes yr wyf yn rhagori ynddo. Mae gweld ffurf yn dod yn fyw drwy gydol y broses ddylunio yn brofiad cyffrous. Rhan fawr o’r broses hon yw datblygu syniadau fel rhan o grŵp. Mae amgylchedd dynamig trafodaethau grŵp yn hynod ddefnyddiol, ac yn hanfodol yn fy marn i er mwyn datblygu’r syniadau ar gyfer ein prosiect byw diweddar gyda DS Smith i gyrraedd diweddglo llwyddiannus!

Rwy’n teimlo’n angerddol ynghylch yr angen i gynhyrchu dyluniadau a chynhyrchion gorffenedig i safon broffesiynol. Teimlaf ei bod hi’n bwysig mynegi fy syniadau yn ddiffuant ac yn glir, gan ddefnyddio llais cryf wrth drafod fy ngwaith, ond gan dderbyn beirniadaeth o hyd. Mae’r dull dynamig hwn mor bwysig gan ei fod yn sicrhau bod y broses ddylunio gyfan yn canolbwyntio ar ei nod gwreiddiol o fewn amgylchedd creadigol.

This render illustrates the final robot design that I did within a group in second year. The project focus was to create a robot that could carry out a task that ether hasn’t been done before or could be done better, we designed a robot that could collect Lego after a child has finished playing with it, stopping the painful reminder when stepping on it!

Mae’r rendr hwn yn dangos y dyluniad robot terfynol a wnes i mewn grŵp yn yr ail flwyddyn. Ffocws y prosiect oedd creu robot a allai gyflawni tasg nad yw ether wedi’i wneud o’r blaen neu y gellid ei wneud yn well. Fe wnaethon ni ddylunio robot a allai gasglu Lego ar ôl i blentyn orffen chwarae ag ef, gan atal yr atgoffa poenus pan camu arno!

This render illustrates a project that we did with W2W our brief was to design a piece of furniture that could be adapted to suit a group environment or someone working alone. Our group design was based upon using sustainable materials where possible but keeping an aesthetic approach to it, allowing this table to slide and move on top create its day to day use.

Mae’r rendr hwn yn dangos prosiect a wnaethom gyda W2W ein brîff oedd dylunio darn o ddodrefn y gellid ei addasu i weddu i amgylchedd grŵp neu rywun sy’n gweithio ar ei ben ei hun. Roedd dyluniad ein grŵp yn seiliedig ar ddefnyddio deunyddiau cynaliadwy lle bo hynny’n bosibl ond cadw agwedd esthetig ato, gan ganiatáu i’r bwrdd hwn lithro a symud ymlaen i greu ei ddefnydd o ddydd i ddydd.

This render illustrates my final major project design which I have called Doorstor. The concept behind this design is to allow you to store the mess of clothes within a room but in a convenient way more suitable for a student lifestyle which I feel will be the demographic for this product. The design allows it to a blend away within a room whilst adding a mirror to offer a further function.

Mae’r rendr hwn yn dangos fy nyluniad prosiect mawr terfynol yr wyf wedi’i alw’n Doorstor. Y cysyniad y tu ôl i’r dyluniad hwn yw caniatáu ichi storio’r llanast o ddillad mewn ystafell ond mewn ffordd gyfleus sy’n fwy addas ar gyfer ffordd o fyw myfyriwr, a chredaf mai hwn fydd demograffig y cynnyrch hwn. Mae’r dyluniad yn caniatáu iddo ymdoddi i ffwrdd o fewn ystafell wrth ychwanegu drych i gynnig swyddogaeth arall.

This additional render illustrates how you would access the storage space to hang clothes, the angled rear runners prevent the storage space ever being left open as it naturally wants to close, stopping the mess from being seen and creating a convenient hiding place.

Mae’r rendr ychwanegol hwn yn dangos sut y byddech chi’n cyrchu’r lle storio i hongian dillad, mae’r rhedwyr cefn onglog yn atal y lle storio rhag cael ei adael ar agor gan ei fod yn naturiol eisiau cau, gan atal y llanast rhag cael ei weld a chreu cuddfan gyfleus.
