In my practice, I study the female form and explore the notion of what female empowerment means to us in the 21st century. Through the medium of painting and digital drawing, I aim to celebrate femininity and the body. Currently, my aesthetic influence stems from a fascination with abstraction and the power of illusions within pattern work. I then combine this with kitsch colours to create imagery of the body, focusing on the vulva.

There is such a big stigma around the appearance of female genitalia that I aim to confront as there’s a significant lack in our sexual education that needs attention. We need to be more aware of the different female forms and celebrate this because for too long the clean shaven, tucked in appearance of a porn star has dominated our perception of what women should look like.

My work aims to shift away from historic ideas that the female muse is created for the voyeuristic male gaze and instead be the subject of women’s liberation. As a female artist, reclaiming the female nude is important to me because I want to address the seriousness of how unrealistic, sexualised embodiments of women have damaging effects to the real women living in our society. I feel that I can achieve this by illustrating imagery of female genitalia within these colourful, playful depictions, in the hope that it celebrates and normalises the variety of women everywhere and emphasise the fact that no two women are the same.

Yn fy ngwaith, rwy’n astudio’r ffurf fenywaidd ac yn archwilio ystyr yr hyn y mae hawliau merched yn ei olygu i ni yn yr 21ain ganrif. Drwy gyfrwng paentio a darlunio digidol, fy nod yw dathlu benyweidd-dra a’r corff. Ar hyn o bryd, mae fy nylanwad esthetig yn deillio o gyfareddiad â haniaeth a phŵer rhithiau o fewn gwaith patrwm. Yna, byddaf yn cyfuno hyn â lliwiau ‘kitsh’ er mwyn creu delwedd o’r corff, gan ganolbwyntio ar y fwlfa.

Mae cymaint o stigma yn gysylltiedig ag ymddangosiad y genitalia benywaidd, rwy’n awyddus i ddelio â hyn gan fod diffyg sylweddol yn ein haddysg rhyw ac mae angen rhoi sylw i hyn. Mae angen i ni fod yn fwy ymwybodol o’r ffurfiau benywaidd gwahanol a dathlu hyn oherwydd, ers gormod o amser, mae’r ddelwedd o seren pornograffi daclus a eilliwyd yn lân wedi rheoli ein canfyddiad o’r ffordd y dylai merched edrych.

Nod fy ngwaith yw troi cefn ar syniadau hanesyddol y caiff y ddelwedd fenywaidd ei chreu ar gyfer llygaid dynion ac yn lle hynny bod yn destun rhyddid merched. Fel artist benywaidd, mae ailhawlio’r ffurf fenywaidd noeth yn bwysig i mi am fy mod am fynd i’r afael â’r ffordd y mae difrifoldeb corfforiadau afrealistig a rhywiol o fenywod yn cael effeithiau niweidiol ar y menywod go iawn sy’n byw yn ein cymdeithas. Rwy’n teimlo y gallaf gyflawni hyn drwy ddangos delweddau o genitalia menywod yn y darluniau lliwgar, chwareus hyn, yn y gobaith y bydd yn dathlu ac yn normaleiddio’r amrywiaeth o fenywod a geir ym mhobman a phwysleisio’r ffaith nad yw unrhyw ddwy fenyw yr un fath.

My work explores the relationship between a space and the art in it. I have become intrigued by how a painting can effect a space, exploring corporate art, it can be used to influence productivity and creativity in that environment. With influence from Colour Theory,...

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
