Embracing my newly-found joy in fusing glass into beautiful and useful items, and exploring the aesthetic of representing everyday objects in alternative media, I wanted to find an outlet for it which would pander to another love in my life, food, and more specifically, cake. Totally fired up with dreams of sumptuous cakes, cream and chocolate, I am now concentrating on getting the glass to work for me in producing shiny, attractive, eye-catching cake stands and party ware. Single pedestal stands designed to take large cakes and double tiered stands for small cakes and biscuits appear next to smaller tiered pieces designed for cocktail snacks. The designs vary from cartoon-like representations of cake, to abstract floral, geometric and junkyard chic.

Hand in hand with the attractiveness, it is important to me that my work should be practical, and easy to use and keep clean. Some stands are made from new bullseye glass, and others from recycled bottles and jars. New glass is an expensive and disposable commodity, and so by using the recycled glass I embrace the principle of making use of anything which might otherwise be wasted and which has its own beauty, a keystone of my creative ethic.

With this aspect in mind I have also produced round coasters in the style of the ‘cakes’ and square ones in the more abstract style, which could also be used as wall tiles, really fulfilling my wish for my work to have practical purpose.

Gan gofleidio’r llawenydd roeddwn newydd ei ddarganfod wrth ymdoddi gwydr yn eitemau hardd a defnyddiol ac archwilio’r esthetig o gynrychioli gwrthrychau bob dydd mewn cyfryngau eraill, roeddwn am gael hyd i ffordd a fyddai’n porthi cariad arall yn fy mywyd, sef bwyd ac yn fwy penodol teisen. A’m meddwl yn llawn o freuddwydion am deisennau gwych, hufen a siocled, rwy’n canolbwyntio nawr ar gael y gwydr i weithio i fi, i gael cynhyrchu standiau teisennau a nwyddau parti, a fyddai’n sgleiniog, yn ddeniadol ac yn dal y llygad. Mae standiau pedestal sengl sydd wedi’u dylunio i ddal teisennau mawr a standiau dwy-haen ar gyfer teisennau bach a bisgedi i’w gweld drws nesaf i ddarnau haenog llai sydd wedi’u dylunio ar gyfer byrfwydydd coctel. Mae’r dyluniadau’n amrywio o’r rhai sy’n cynrychioli teisen mewn ffordd sy’n ymdebygu i gartŵn, i rai blodeuog haniaethol, rhai geometrig a rhai junkyard chic.

Law yn llaw â’r dengarwch yma, mae’n bwysig i mi bod fy ngwaith yn ymarferol ac yn hawdd ei ddefnyddio a’i gadw’n lân. Bydd rhai standiau wedi’u gwneud o wydr bullseye newydd ac mae eraill o boteli a jariau wedi’u hailgylchu. Mae gwydr newydd yn nwydd drud a thafladwy ac, felly, drwy ddefnyddio gwydr wedi’i ailgylchu, rwyf yn arfer yr egwyddor o ddefnyddio unrhyw beth a allai gael ei wastraffu fel arall ac sydd â’i harddwch ei hun, conglfaen i’m hetheg greadigol.

Â’r elfen hon mewn golwg, rwyf hefyd wedi cynhyrchu matiau diod crwn yn steil y ‘teisennau’ a rhai sgwâr mewn steil mwy haniaethol, y gellid eu defnyddio hefyd yn deils waliau a fyddai’n gwireddu fy nymuniad bod diben ymarferol i’m gwaith.
