The Norm
Fusing collage, painting and video, my work integrates traditional fine-art techniques with a more experimental approach. Using contemporary media – relevant to our increasing technoculture – I aspire to examine techniques of ‘distraction’ employed by governmental systems, and their portrayal in the media. Building on found-footage montaging techniques used in activistic documentaries, my work empties meaning from archived clips, abstracting them to reveal their poetic beauty. Considering contextual aspects of media art – from photocopy art through to the video monitor installations of the late 70s, to contemporary technologies – I examine the precepts of utopia and dystopia.
My work communicates a sense of confusion or bewilderment towards the sheer quantity of readily available information and the seemingly impossible task of finding truths amongst this abundance.
