The Friars Point Hotel was designed as a result of a brief given to me for the Exposure module in year 3 BSc Architectural Design and Technology. The site is located on the Friars Point headland west of Whitmore bay in the densely populated tourist destination of Barry Island. Barry Is a large town located South-West of Cardiff, in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.
Friars Point Hotel is a 4 star hotel with spa, gym and conference facilities. I have responded to the brief by considering numerous variables with regards to the site. I have incorporated façade system that complement the high exposure of the site, with regards to sunlight and also salt and water.
The hotel comprises of four storeys, a ground floor with a large double height reception area and an open plan restaurant area with an attached bra and lounge. The ground floor also facilitates the spa area. The first floor compromises of an open circulation space with views over the reception, two large function rooms and a variety of meeting rooms and offices. The upper two floors of the hotel are accommodation area, both floors accommodating 30 guestrooms with a variety of options including VIP guestrooms and disabled access.
The construction of the hotel is a steel frame structure with a variety of façade systems. The external envelope has two different rain screen cladding systems, providing a mixture of textures around the envelope. The external façade also has large areas of curtain walling to flood the building with sunlight and provide spectacular views over the Bristol Channel and the beaches at Barry Island.
Dyluniwyd Gwesty Friars Point o ganlyniad i friff a roddwyd i mi ar gyfer y modiwl Exposure ym mlwyddyn 3 BSc Technoleg a Dylunio Pensaernïol. Mae’r safle wedi’i leoli ar bentir Friars Point i’r gorllewin i fae Whitmore yng nghyrchfan dwristiaid boblog Ynys y Barri. Mae’r Barri yn dref fawr sydd wedi’i lleoli i’r De-Orllewin o Gaerdydd, ym Mro Morgannwg, Cymru.
Mae Gwesty Friars Point yn westy 4* â sba, campfa a chyfleusterau cynadledda. Rwyf wedi ymateb i’r briff drwy ystyried nifer o newidynnau o ran y safle. Rwyf wedi cynnwys system ffasâd sy’n gydnaws â natur agored uchel y safle, o ran heulwen a hefyd halen a dŵr.
Mae pedwar llawr yn y gwesty, llawr gwaelod a thŷ bwyta cynllun-agored ac ardal dderbyn fawr, uchder dwbl, ynghyd â bar a lolfa. Mae ardal y sba ar y llawr gwaelod hefyd. Ar y llawr cyntaf mae gofod agored lle bydd pobl yn gallu cerdded o gwmpas a gweld y dderbynfa, dwy ystafell fawr ar gyfer digwyddiadau ac amrywiaeth o ystafelloedd cyfarfod a swyddfeydd. Ardaloedd lletya gwesteion yw’r ddau lawr uchaf ac mae 30 o ystafelloedd i westeion ar bob llawr gydag amrywiaeth o opsiynau gan gynnwys ystafelloedd VIP a mynediad i’r anabl.
Fframyn o ddur yw seilwaith y gwesty gydag amrywiaeth o systemau ffasâd. Mae dau fath o gladin ar y tu allan i’r adeilad yn cynnig cymysgedd o weadwaith o gwmpas y gwesty. Mae ardaloedd eang o furlenni gan y ffasâd allanol i foddi’r adeilad mewn heulwen ac i gynnig golygfeydd ysblennydd dros Fôr Hafren a thraethau Ynys y Barri.
