My ceramic vessels are active objects in the sense that a range of them were designed to rock and move in response to their environment. Interaction through movement changes the traditional dynamics of an active man and passive women, as only the female forms are free to move. My work is aimed at abstracting the human form through the play of masculine lines and feminine curves. All pieces were designed to challenge the centre of gravity and to convey harmony and balance through active gender roles, and is a direct response to the rigid gendered constraints that many oppose onto others and ourselves.

Based originally on using geometrical shapes and forms that would commonly be manufactured through Computer aided design in order to achieve perfect symmetry and a refined finish. I wanted to achieve this aesthetic through low technology and handcrafted processes, that I personally find necessary when making.

The encompassing theme is based upon femininity, sensuality and womanhood. However individual pieces pertain their personal narrative such as traditional family relationships, fertility and hierarchy of identity and the role of the woman.

The forms were influenced by, subverting idealistic representations of masculine and feminine characteristics through abstraction.
‘Double Vase’ is based upon the theme of romanticism, intimacy and relationships. The embrace represents intimacy, nurturing and sacrifice on behalf of the female form and in exchange the male form is completely dependant upon the female in order to support itself.

Lluniwyd pob darn i herio craidd disgyrchiant ac i gyfleu harmoni a chydbwysedd rhwng rolau actif y rhywiau ac mae’n ymateb uniongyrchol i gyfyngiadau anhyblyg penodol i’r rhywiau y mae llawer o bobl yn eu gorfodi ar eraill a’n hunain.

Yn seiliedig yn wreiddiol ar y defnydd o siapiau a ffurfiau a fyddai fel arfer yn cael eu creu drwy ddylunio drwy gymorth cyfrifiadur er mwyn sicrhau cymesuredd perffaith a gorffeniad coeth. Roeddwn i am gyflawni hyn drwy broses dechnoleg isel ei lefel a phrosesau crefft llaw yr wyf fi’n bersonol yn ei chael yn angenrheidiol wrth wneuthur.

Mae’r thema gyffredinol yn seiliedig ar fenyweidd-dra, cnawdolrwydd a benywdod. Fodd bynnag, mae darnau unigol yn cadw eu naratif personol megis perthynas teuluol, ffrwythlondeb a hierarchaeth hunaniaeth a rôl y fenyw.

Yr hyn a ddylanwadodd ar y ffurfiau oedd tanseilio portreadau delfrydyddol o nodweddion gwryw a benyw drwy haniaeth.
Mae ‘Double Vase’ wedi’i seilio ar thema rhamantiaeth, agosatrwydd a pherthynas. Mae’r cofleidio yn cynrychioli meithrin ac aberth ar ran y ffurf fenywaidd tra bod y ffurf wrywaidd yn ddibynnol ar y fenyw i’w gynnal ei hun.
