My final Project is an adaptation of a story written by Babs Horton. The story is a Holiday romance about an English school mistress who is caught swimming naked on a secluded beach in Spain.
Initially I was inspired to paint my animation using oil paint on glass after watching the Bird and the Whale by Carol Freeman. I liked the paint and brush stroke quality of the animation and wanted to achieve this myself. I wanted to combine the best qualities of traditional painting with contemporary digital animation techniques. To achieve this I developed a process where I painted all characters and backgrounds, scanned them digitally and animated them with a digital animation program called MOHO.
I have created colour schemes to suit the different moods of my film. I have painted the Spanish scenes in bright vibrant colours to create dreamlike scenes. The London scenes are painted in Blue/purple colours to emphasise the sadness she feels being back home and to contrast with the Spanish Scenes. The background artwork was inspired by Disney’s 101 Dalmatians.

Yn y lle cyntaf, cefais fy ysbrydoli i beintio fy animeiddiad gan ddefnyddio paent olew ar wydr ar ôl gwylio The Bird and the Whale gan Carol Freeman. Roeddwn i’n hoffi ansawdd y paent a’r brwsio yn yr animeiddiad ac roeddwn i eisiau cyflawni hyn fy hun. Roeddwn i eisiau cyfuno rhinweddau gorau peintio traddodiadol â thechnegau animeiddio digidol cyfoes. I gyflawni hyn, fe wnes i ddatblygu proses lle’r oeddwn i’n peintio pob cymeriad a chefndir, eu sganio nhw’n ddigidol a’u hanimeiddio gyda rhaglen animeiddio ddigidol o’r enw MOHO. Dwi wedi creu cynlluniau lliw i weddu i wahanol hwyliau fy ffilm. Dwi wedi peintio’r golygfeydd Sbaeneg mewn lliwiau bywiog i greu golygfeydd breuddwydiol. Mae’r golygfeydd yn Llundain wedi’u peintio mewn lliwiau glas/porffor i bwysleisio’r tristwch mae hi’n ei deimlo yn ôl gartref ac i gyferbynnu â’r golygfeydd yn Sbaen. Ysbrydolwyd y gwaith celf cefndir gan 101 Dalmatians gan Disney.
