Sophie Sarah Sitai Kehoe

BA (Hons) Illustration

Sophie Sarah Sitai Kehoe is an illustrator that is fascinated with the interest of creating and exploring narratives and characters through emotions and world-building to make a connection with people around her.
Her work often reflects her own emotional and physical state- expressed through deep visuals representations that mirror directly or inadvertently to herself. Driven to expand her skills and explore different ideas, each piece is a statement to her older self and her creative growth. With a lesson to be learned from the discomfort or satisfaction instilled by the piece, viewers are left with a feeling resembling the motions of life.

“Covid-19 has many trapped within the comforts of home but with the country of no pandemic and availability to be with others, you are ‘free’, but the confinement of safety can also be crippling to a bird who can’t spread its wings. Will I be a bird who soon forgets how to fly?”

The artist’s work shows a conflict of interest through harsh visuals by her reflected character. The narrative, like her emotions, portrays a clash of wants and emotions, safety and quiet with desperation and anxiety, represented by a never-ending loop. Although the narrative is dim, never does the light leave the page, signaling good days are never far.

Darlunydd yw Sophie Sarah Sitai Kehoe sydd wedi ei swyno gan y diddordeb o greu ac archwilio naratifau a chymeriadau drwy emosiynau a chreu bydoedd er mwyn cysylltu â phobl o’i chwmpas.
Mae ei gwaith yn aml yn adlewyrchu ei theimladau emosiynol a chorfforol ei hunan sy’n cael eu mynegi drwy gynrychiolaeth weledol ddofn sy’n ei hadlewyrchu hi yn uniongyrchol neu’n anfwriadol. Drwy gael ei gyrru i ehangu ei sgiliau ac i archwilio syniadau gwahanol, mae pob darn yn ddatganiad i’w thwf creadigol ac i fersiwn y dyfodol o’i hunan. Mae gwers i’w dysgu o’r anghysur neu’r boddhad mae’r darn yn ei gynnig, ac mae’r arsyllwr yn profi teimladau tebyg i’r hyn sy’n bodoli mewn bywyd.

“Mae Covid-19 wedi gorfodi llawer ohonon ni i fod yn gaeth i’n cartrefi, ond gyda gwlad heb bandemig gyda’r gallu i fod gyda phobl eraill, rydych chi’n ‘rhydd’, ond gall diogelwch cyfyng hefyd fod yn llesteiriol i aderyn sydd methu â lledaenu ei adenydd. Ai fi fydd yr aderyn sydd wedi anghofio sut i hedfan cyn hir?”

Mae gwaith yr arlunydd yn dangos gwrthdaro drwy ddelweddau llym gan y cymeriad a adlewyrchir. Mae’r naratif, fel ei hemosiynau, yn portreadu gwrthdaro rhwng eisiau ac emosiynau, diogelwch a thawelwch ac anobaith a phryder, sy’n cael eu cynrychioli gan gylch diddiwedd. Er bod y naratif yn wan, dyw’r golau byth yn gadael y dudalen, sy’n arwydd o’r ffaith bod dyddiau gwell bob amser i ddod.
