Spencer Fritter was born in Cwmbran, South Wales in 2000. Their practice is rooted in the implementation of new-media aesthetics in the creation of a developing series of speculative, multimedia fiction entitled “KĦopraxia”. The narrative is contextualised under the fictional pretence of the failed “Upload” of Networked human consciousness, and explores the unsuccessful migration of the physical body into Cyberspace, converging into an intimate account of specular pain and longing.
Drawing inspiration from Sci-Fi tropes and related media, the artist’s practice explores the total annihilation of the physical bodily form, striving to debate the consequences of the dissolution of the boundaries between physical and digital spaces. The narrative interrogates themes of disembodiment, spatial displacement and the tactile body as a prospective product of post-evolution. Utilising a backdrop of abstract digital landscapes as the primary site for conceptual exploration, the work delves into the extremely contemporary debate of technological-acceleration, biological or cybernetic augmentation; and converges in a critical examination of the evolving human condition in a neo-Capitalist, bio-virtual landscape.
Beyond this, the artist’s research is deeply concerned with the intimate relationship between the body and consciousness, and explores the body and its ascriptive relationship to personhood and cultural identity through abject, visceral depictions of its symbolic rupture. The use of synthetic or digital flesh as a placeholder for the physical raises questions of the morphogenic principle of the body as a vessel for consciousness, reflecting on the incommunicable desire to operate beyond the body.
Ganwyd Spencer Fitter yng Nghwmbrân, De Cymru yn 2000. Gwreiddiwyd ei ymarfer yng ngweithrediad estheteg cyfryngau newydd wrth greu a datblygu cyfres o ffuglen fentrus, aml-gyfryngol o dan y teitl “KĦopraxia”. Caiff y naratif ei roi yn ei gyd-destun dan esgus ffuglennol methiant “Uwchlwytho” ymwybyddiaeth ddynol Rhwydweithiol, ac mae’n archwilio mudo aflwyddiannus y corff i Seibrofod, gan gydgyfeirio’n gyfrif o boen a hiraeth agos atoch.
Gan ddwyn ysbrydoliaeth o ymadroddion ffug-wyddonol a chyfryngau cysylltiedig, mae ymarfer yr artist yn archwilio difodiant llwyr y ffurf gorfforol, gan ymdrechu i ddadlau canlyniadau dileu’r ffiniau rhwng y gofod corfforol a digidol. Mae’r naratif yn cwestiynu themâu digorfforiad, dadleoliad gofodol a’r corff cyffyrddol fel cynnyrch posibl ôl-esblygiad. Gan ddefnyddio cefnlen o dirwedd ddigidol haniaethol fel y safle sylfaenol ar gyfer archwiliad cysyniadol, mae’r gwaith yn ystyried y ddadl hynod gyfoes yn ymwneud â chyflymiad technoleg, cynnydd biolegol neu seibrnetig; ac mae’n cydgyfeirio mewn archwiliad critigol o’r cyflwr dynol sy’n esblygu mewn tirwedd neo-Gyfalafol, bio-rithiol.
Ymhellach, mae ymchwil yr artist yn ymwneud yn helaeth â’r berthynas agos rhwng y corff a’r ymwybod, gan archwilio’r corff a’i berthynas briodolus â phersonoldeb a hunaniaeth ddiwylliannol drwy ddarluniau dirdynnol o’i rwygiad symbolaidd. Mae’r defnydd o gnawd synthetig neu ddigidol fel dalfan ar gyfer y corfforol yn codi cwestiynau am egwyddor morffogenaidd y corff fel llestr ar gyfer yr ymwybod, gan adlewyrchu ar y dyhead anhrosglwyddadwy i weithredu y tu hwnt i’r corff.
