Hard/Soft/Constructs

My background in textiles has given me a real interest in how soft and malleable materials can be manipulated, stitched and folded to create form. In this collection called Hard/Soft/Constructs, I was keen to reverse key material properties by making these soft forms ridged and permanent through the use of concrete and jesmonite. This enables me to give new functional contexts to soft materials. In this collection the user has the benefits of strong, durable materials but with a soft and tactile aesthetic. Each piece is easily assembled and disassembled allowing for user interaction and to meet the needs of specific environments. The collection has been inspired by Scandinavian design, clean cut lines, curvature and a pale palette. Each piece has been delicately hand made from the woven lamp bases, to the integrated circuitry, this is to best exploit the qualities of the materials selected.
