Think about things you tolerate in life. Are these things negative? Tolerance is “the ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with”. With this in mind, why is it that minorities are taught that tolerance is a good thing? To accept tolerance in regards to one’s sexual preference or gender identity is to admit that there is something negative or undesirable about these things. There is a great difference between tolerance and inclusion. However, the LGBTQ community is taught that these are one and the same. Tolerance may help to change laws but it does not help to change public opinion. Despite the strides that have been made in terms of legislation, discrimination against the LGBTQ community is still alive and well. Many LGBTQ people are still struggling to find acceptance and inclusion in an intolerant world. This project aims to reveal the true meaning of tolerance and hopes to encourage a change in thinking about whether tolerance should be the true aim or whether we should be striving for something better.

Meddyliwch am bethau rydych yn eu goddef mewn bywyd. A yw’r pethau hyn yn negyddol? Goddefiad yw’r “gallu neu’r parodrwydd i oddef bodolaeth safbwyntiau neu ymddygiad nad yw rhywun yn eu hoffi neu y mae’n anghytuno â nhw.” Gan ystyried hyn, pam mae lleiafrifoedd yn cael eu haddysgu bod goddefiad yn beth da? Er mwyn derbyn goddefiad mewn perthynas â dewisiadau rhywiol rhywun neu ei hunaniaeth o ran rhywedd, mae angen cyfaddef bod rhywbeth negyddol neu annymunol am y pethau hyn. Mae gwahaniaeth mawr rhwng goddefiad a chynhwysiant. Fodd bynnag, mae’r gymuned LGBTQ yn cael ei haddysgu bod y rhain yr un fath. Gall goddefiad helpu i newid cyfreithiau ond nid yw’n helpu i newid barn y cyhoedd. Er gwaethaf yr ymdrechion a wnaed o ran deddfwriaeth, mae pobl yn dal i wahaniaethu yn erbyn y gymuned LGBTQ. Mae llawer o bobl LGBTQ yn dal i fethu â chael eu derbyn a’u cynnwys mewn byd anoddefgar. Nod yw prosiect hwn yw datgelu gwir ystyr goddefgarwch a’r gobaith yw annog newid mewn ffordd o feddwl ynghylch p’un a ddylai goddefgarwch fod yn brif nod neu p’un a ddylem fod yn anelu at rywbeth gwell.
