Tammy Collins

BA (Hons) Illustration

My artwork takes a critical view of social issues, mental health and issues concerning mental health. I have always been interested in psychology which is a running theme in my work. I have worked with various subjects ranging from eating disorders to autism. I am currently working with the NHS to re-invent their eating disorder website. I am also working with Loughborough university and Ardman Animations on a digital storytelling project concerning mental health.

My work reproduces common visual signals, organising them into new paintings with conceptual layers. My approach is consistent, and I mainly use similar materials and processes in each project. While the various projects do not always have structural similarities, they are related through recurrent procedural problems and by the subject matter. The subject matter for each work body defines the works materials and types. Projects that I take part in frequently consist of multiple works clustered around similar themes and meanings, often in a variety of different media. New areas of interest emerge during research and development which contribute to the next body of work. I am currently interested in spray paint work, how it looks visually and the textures it creates.

Mae fy ngwaith celf yn bwrw golwg beirniadol ar faterion cymdeithasol, iechyd meddwl a materion o gwmpas iechyd meddwl. Rwyf bob amser wedi meddu ar ddiddordeb mewn seicoleg, sy’n thema barhaus yn fy ngwaith. Rwyf wedi gweithio gydag amrywiaeth o bynciau gan amrywio o anhwylderau bwyta i awtistiaeth. Ar hyn o bryd rwy’n gweithio gyda’r GIG i ailddyfeisio eu gwefan anhwylderau bwyta. Rwyf hefyd yn cydweithio â phrifysgol Loughborough ac Ardman Animations ar brosiect adrodd storïau digidol ynglŷn ag iechyd meddwl.

Mae fy ngwaith yn atgynhyrchu signalau gweledol cyffredin, gan drefnu nhw mewn paentiadau newydd gyda haenau cysyniadol. Mae fy null yn gyson, ac yn bennaf rwy’n defnyddio deunyddiau a phrosesau tebyg ym mhob prosiect. Er nad oes gan y prosiectau amrywiol debygolrwydd strwythurol trwy’r amser, maent yn gysylltiedig trwy broblemau gweithdrefnol cylchol a chan y deunydd pwnc. Mae’r deunydd pwnc ar gyfer pob corff gwaith yn diffinio’r deunyddiau a mathau o waith. Mae prosiectau yr wyf yn cymryd rhan ynddynt yn aml yn cynnwys gweithiau lluosog sydd wedi’u clystyru o gwmpas themâu ac ystyron tebyg, yn aml mewn amrywiaeth o gyfryngau gwahanol. Daw meysydd diddordeb newydd i’r amlwg yn ystod ymchwil a datblygu sy’n cyfrannu at y corff gwaith nesaf. Ar hyn o bryd mae gennyf ddiddordeb mewn gwaith paent chwistrell, sut mae’n edrych yn weledol a’r gweadedd y mae’n ei greu.
