Geometry is the visual study of spatial forms, shapes, sizes, positions and patterns. It is the branch of mathematics concerning the relationships, measurements and properties of points, angles, lines, surfaces and solids. It defines the world around us and everything in between.
Geometry is my instrument of creation, I am both a constructor and composer exploring two universal languages of music and art. Like notes to a song, each ceramic composition is made of individual notes, their organisation of mass and tension creating movement and rhythm.
I often find an immediate transference of sensation from the music within me to that of a piece; particularly through the activity of carving and the brushing of colour. Ultimately I seek to create an equilibrium, one that represents both shape and number, seeking a geometrically perfect harmony.
My work is an ode to geometry, the balances and imbalances of life and a means by which to explore the unknown laws of the world, the universe, human nature and our planet; and equilibrium in art.
