BSc (Hons) Product Design

Design sits at the forefront of our everyday lives and how we interact with the environment around us. This could be seen as a bespoke solution to cater to an individual’s needs to benefit their lives or casting a wider net to focus on a mass market, whilst always considering the social and environmental impacts of these design decision. Producing outcomes which achieve the goals set out beforehand by deconstructing briefs and problems whilst researching necessary areas to fully grasp the context of the project. I have developed my skills as a designer through teamwork, self-motivation and hard work, focusing on meeting deadlines with a solution that meets the issues set out by the brief. I see myself as strong in the ideation process, being able to have a broad number of potential concepts which through research and development can then be refined. As an individual I am confident and passionate about projects when presenting to an audience or potential clients. In the past, I have been a representative for the university when abroad and providing content to the official social media of the university. Working collaboratively, I often find myself pushed as the head or leader of groups. My latest achievement winning the DS Smith Innovation Challenge within a small group. These opportunities allowed me to develop skills which I then implemented to keep projects on track, to reach both the deadline and also a refined outcome.

Mae dylunio yn rhan flaenllaw o’n bywydau bob dydd a sut rydyn ni’n rhyngweithio â’r amgylchedd o’n cwmpas. Gallai hyn gael ei weld fel ateb pwrpasol wedi’i deilwra i anghenion unigolion er lles eu bywydau, neu fwrw’r rhwyd ymhellach i ganolbwyntio ar y farchnad ehangach, gan ystyried effeithiau’r penderfyniadau dylunio hyn ar gymdeithas a’r amgylchedd. Creu canlyniadau sy’n cyflawni’r amcanion a nodir ymlaen llaw drwy ddatgymalu briffiau a phroblemau tra’n ymchwilio i feysydd angenrheidiol er mwyn deall cyd-destun y prosiect yn llawn. Rwyf wedi datblygu fy sgiliau fel dylunydd trwy waith tîm, hunangymhelliant a gwaith caled, gan ganolbwyntio ar fodloni terfynau amser gydag ateb sy’n bodloni heriau’r briff. Rwy’n ystyried y broses o greu syniadau fel un o’m cryfderau, gyda llawer o gysyniadau posib y gellir eu mireinio trwy ymchwil a datblygu. Rwy’n unigolyn hyderus sy’n frwd dros brosiectau wrth wneud cyflwyniad i gynulleidfa neu ddarpar gleientiaid. Rydw i wedi cynrychioli’r brifysgol dramor yn y gorffennol, ac wedi darparu cynnwys i gyfrif cyfryngau cymdeithasol swyddogol y Brifysgol. Wrth gydweithio ag eraill, rwy’n cael fy newis yn bennaeth neu arweinydd grwpiau’n aml. Fy llwyddiant diweddaraf oedd ennill y DS Smith Innovation Challenge mewn grŵp bach. Bu’r cyfleoedd hyn yn gyfle i mi ddatblygu sgiliau a ddefnyddiais wedyn i gadw prosiectau ar y trywydd cywir, cadw at y dyddiad cau, a sicrhau canlyniad gwell hefyd.

W2W – Float was the name of the design produced the idea is to improve the collaborative working area and also improve the accessibility for all users. The developed concept was to improve the inclusion of users and those who will interact with this working space. By removing the barriers found in the workplace that those with disabilities face to create a working team with higher levels of unity resulting in a stronger workforce.

W2W – Float oedd enw’r dyluniad a gynhyrchwyd; y syniad yw gwella’r ardal gweithio ar y cyd, a hefyd gwella’r hygyrchedd ar gyfer yr holl ddefnyddwyr. Y cysyniad a ddatblygwyd oedd gwella cynhwysiant defnyddwyr a’r rheiny a fydd yn rhyngweithio â’r man gweithio hwn. Trwy gael gwared â’r rhwystrau a geir yn y gweithle y mae’r rheiny ag anableddau yn eu hwynebu i greu tîm gweithio gyda lefelau uchel o undod sy’n arwain at weithlu cryfach.

This shows the final concept produced with the light in the case and then going through the steps to become ready to use. Its original small compact form which then transforms into the on the go studio light which allows for users to have higher quality results from camera phone photography in low levels of light.

Mae hwn yn dangos y cysyniad terfynol a gynhyrchwyd gyda’r golau yn y câs, ac yna’n mynd drwy’r camau i fod yn barod i’w ddefnyddio. Ei ffurf gryno fach wreiddiol sydd wedyn yn trawsnewid yn olau stiwdio ar gerdded ar gyfer defnyddwyr i gael canlyniadau ansawdd gwell o ffotograffiaeth ffôn camera mewn lefelau golau isel.

This image is a collection of the models produced for my major project. This shows the amount of iterations and developments which were evaluated and produced to result in a refined concept. This modelling process also allowed for the exploration into multiple production methods such as 3D printing and laser cutting.

Mae’r ddelwedd hon yn gasgliad o’r modelau a gynhyrchwyd ar gyfer fy mhrif brosiect. Mae’n dangos nifer yr ailadroddiadau a’r datblygiadau a gafodd eu gwerthuso a’u cynhyrchu i arwain at gysyniad mireiniedig. Mae’r broses modelu hon wedi galluogi archwilio i nifer o ddulliau cynhyrchu, fel argraffu 3D a thorri â laser.

This shows the concept produced of my major project produced folded and out of the case. This is a portable light designed for on the go photography. Smart phones are limited when it comes to low light photography and the flash produces a harsh and poor-quality image. The result is a product that allows greater control over the lighting of the enviroment when using a phones camera.

Mae hwn yn dangos y cysyniad a gynhyrchwyd yn fy mhrif brosiect, a gyflwynir wedi’i blygu ac allan o’r câs. Golau cludadwy yw hwn wedi’i ddylunio ar gyfer ffotograffiaeth ar gerdded. Mae ffonau clyfar yn gyfyngedig o ran ffotograffiaeth golau isel, ac mae’r fflach yn cynhyrchu delwedd arw o ansawdd gwael. Y canlyniad yw cynnyrch sy’n galluogi mwy o reolaeth dros oleuo’r amgylchedd wrth ddefnyddio camera ffonau.
